I do not remember that I was ever aware of this movie ‘Cobra’ or this title in my growing up years. I became aware of this movie only in 2015 when I got the copy of Geet Kosh Vol V (1971-1980). This movie has a song sung by singer Anwar and that is the reason for this post here. I came across the audio of this song a couple of years ago, and now the video of this song has also become available on internet. Even the movie is now available on online platform.
I guess that this must be an obscure movie of its time. Though it is now available online, but I have not yet watched this movie there. Interested readers can watch this movie on internet. I would request those knowledgeable readers who have already watched this movie to please share their feedback about this movie and its songs here on this blog. Geet Kosh Vol-V mentions this movie as a social movie.
“Cobra-1980” was directed by Batra Mohinder for Peacock Films, Calcutta. It was produced by Ashish Roy and it was passed by the Censor Board on 27.08.1980. This movie was simultaneously made in Bengali language as ‘Kalkut’. The cast of this movie ‘Cobra-1980’ had Ardhendu Bose, Nikki, Ajit, Ranjeet, Jagdeep, Bharat Kapoor, Paintal, Prakash Gill, Iftekhar, S.N. Tripathi, Kalpana Iyer, Poornima Jairam, Jezebel, Tej Sapru, Bob Christo, Geeta Pradhan, Uma Dey, Shrivastava, Sunil Mukherjee, Harish, Madhu Chauhan, Swaraj, Manik, Ansari, Manohar, Shambhu Bhattacharya and others. The lead pair, Ardhendu Bose & Nikki, made their film debuts with this movie.
Story and Screenplay of this movie was written by Dharam Veer Ram, and Javed Siddiqui wrote the dialogues for the Hindi version of this movie. Keshav Naidu was the editor of this movie.
Music for this movie ‘Cobra-1980’ was composed by Som Dev Kashyap. This movie has four songs which were written by Ravinder Rawal(two songs), Som Dev Kashyap(one song) and Madan Pal(one song). The playback singers for this movie are Asha Bhonsle, Anwar, Sushma Shreshtha, Gauri Shankar ‘Gaurav’, Vijaya Mazumdar, and Sunanda.
Today I am presenting the first song from this movie ‘Cobra-1980’ on this blog, which is a nice romantic duet sung by Anwar and Asha Bhonsle. The song is picturised on the lad pair of Ardhendu Bose and Nikki. Music is composed by Som Dev Kashyap and Ravinder Rawal is the lyricist. With this song this movie ‘Cobra-1980’ makes its debut on this blog.
Editor’s note:-Before joining movies, Ardhendu Bose was a well known model of Bombay Dyeing. In the publicity of this movie, Ardhendu Bose was presented as some sort of Indian Bruce Lee. In addition, the fact that he was nephew of Subhash Chandra Bose was also highlighted.
