Today we will discuss a duet song “Khoobsurat Tu Sanam Khoobsurat Main” by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle. The song is written by Asad Bhopali and composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The song is from the 1974 flick “Jurm Aur Sazza”.

Jurm Aur Sazaa (1974) was directed and produced by Nisar Ahmad Ansari. The Writer/Story was by Dhruva Chatterjee, Dialogues by Ahsan Rizvi. The music was composed by Laxmikant–Pyarelal and the lyricists were Ram Bhardwaj, Asad Bhopali & Shakeel Badayuni.

The movie starred Vinod Mehra, Nanda, Johnny Walker, Helen and of course Nisar Ahmad Ansari.

It is based on the novel “Crime and Punishment” by Fyodor Dostoevsky. And therefore its plot follows the central themes and narrative of the original work.

The story centers on a young, impoverished man, in this adaptation named Ratan (played by Vinod Mehra), who is a struggling student/intellectual. Driven by a complex mix of financial desperation, intellectual theories about “extraordinary” men being above the law, and a desire to help the poor, he commits a premeditated murder. This act is the “Jurm” (Crime).

Following the murder, Ratan is consumed not so much by the fear of being caught, but by intense psychological and moral anguish. His isolation, guilt, paranoia, and the feverish struggle with his own conscience form the core drama of the film.

A clever and subtle police investigator begins to suspect Ratan, using psychological tactics to pressure him. A pivotal character, a morally pure woman from a poor background named Ricky (played by Nanda), becomes an important influence, urging him toward repentance and redemption.

Ultimately, Ratan is compelled by his inner turmoil and the spiritual guidance of Ricky to confess his crime. The story concludes with his punishment (often a period of imprisonment) and the slow, difficult, but essential process of his moral and spiritual redemption.

Two songs out of five have already been posted in the blog. Here’s the third song.

This song is a cabaret performed by Helen lip syncing to Asha Bhosle’s voice while initially the male dancers led by Chinoo and then Vinod Mehra lip sync to Kishore Kumar’s voice.

Lyrics:

khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsurat main
khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main
tere dil ka
mere dil se
mil jaana
kya kam hai
kya kam hai
kya kam hai
khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main
khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main
tere dil ka
mere dil se
mil jaana
kya kam hai
kya kam hai
kya kam hai

khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main
khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main

main kya bataoon jaane bahara
kitna haseen tu hai

khwaabon mein jisko dekha hai maine
woh naazneen tu hai
woh naazneen tu hai
tu mera
ban jaaye
phir mujh ko
kya gham hai
kya gham hai
kya gham hai

khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main
khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main

aao muskuraatee mastee lutaatee rangeen raat leke
marzee hai teree
chaahe kaheen bhee
chal mujhko saath le ke
chal mujhko saath le ke

milne se
kya darna
milne ka
masuam hai
masuam hai
masuam hai
khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main

khoobsoorat tu sanam
khoobsoorat main
