As it is, Blog century is a regular and recurring destination for the blog. after we arrive at a blog century, we do not take a pause rather keep continuing to cover more and more songs in the blog and before we realise, we are staring at the next blog century.
This has taught me a lesson that When you do not worry about the destination then you reach your destination almost painlessly and unnoticeably.When one thinks about it, one realises that we have had as many as 196 blog centuries already and now we are only blog century number 197, viz blog song post number 19700.
This blog century has been reached in 26 days, which appears quite a good pace for the blog at present. We cannot compare this rate from the last decade when we were clocking centuries in 16 days but then we were one decade younger at that time and we had far more energy.
It must be said that the blog has begun to look busy and active for the past few months. We are clocking more than one hundred songs every month now a days. As a result, the blog will have added over a thousand songs in this calendar year which would be the first such occasion after 2017.
Now a days the blog gets around 2000 hits a day from the heady days of early 2010s when more than twice this figure used to get achieved. However, sometimes we tend to get some freak figures even now a days. For instance, yesterday, by some quirk of fate the blog received 14198 hits which was the second highest number of hits in a day. The highest figure of 14273 hits was achieved on 5 September 2022 thanks to a similar quirk of fate. Otherwise the highest number of previous hits in a day was achived in 19 october 2011 when 10630 hits were recorded.
More than the number of visits, we are interested in number of songs and movies that are represented in the blog. On that count we have registered impressive figures. We are just 300 song post short of 20000 song posts in the blog which could be acieved in February or March 2026. The blog contains songs from as many as 5163 movies. 122 “new” movies made their debut in the blog in this calendar year 2025. Out of these movies, all songs of 1535 movies have been covered in the blog. These 1535 YIPPEED movies together account for 10686 songs. Will we see a day when the blog will have 3300 YIPPEED movies accounting for 20000 plus songs ? 🙂
All but one out of 99 songs in the run up of this century have been “guest” posts. It shows that the guests, who are more accurately described as blog regulars are nowadays contributing posts regularly with renewed enthusiasm.
I too have been planning to write a post of my own, but posting all these guest articles and then doing background work on the blog has not left me much time for my own post. Nevertheless, I hope to be able to finish that article in the next few days. I hope our regulars and other visitors will find that article useful which deals with a topic of interest to all of us.
Selection of the song for this post was an eleventh hour decision, as is usual for me now a days. After toying with various ideas, I thouhjt that the song should be one that combines blog cntury with another century. The song combines blog century with artist century, but not the usual artist century. Most artists in the blog can at the most have 100 songs in the blog and that is all, but there are some artists whose songs run into thousands. They are so prolific in their musical output that they can have their century in each calendar year in which they were active.
This prolific artist in one and only Lata Mangeshkar. During her prime, she used to sing 100 plus songs in movies released in a calendar year. Lata Mangeshkar sang 100 plus songs in 23 calender years from 1949 to 1974 ( except three years, viz 1965, 1968, 1969) This blog already has 100 plus Lata Mangeshkar songs from movies released every year from 1949 to 1964, then 1966,1971, 1972, 1973.
Lata Mangeshkar so far has 99 songs in the blog from movies released in 1970. The song under discussion is a Lata Mangeshkar song from a 1970 movie which will take the tally of Lata Mangeshkar film songs of 1970 to 100 in the blog. With this, 1967 is the only calendar year left when Lata Mangeshkar sang 100 plus songs but the blog does not have her century of songs from that year.
Lata Mangeshkar sang 130 songs in movies released in 1970. So I had to make a choice from 31 as yet unrepresented songs in the blog. After going through some of these songs, I came across this wonderful song that appears to be a “new” song to me. It comes as a surprise to me because the song is a composition of Shankar Jaikishan then the top music directors of those days. The movie is very much an A grade movie with top actors to those days.
This song is from “Bhai Bhai”(1970). The word “Bhai” tended to figure a lot in the title of Hindi movie makers those days. We had an identical title “Bhai Bhai” in 1956. Then there were “Do Bhai” in 1947, 1961 and 1969. We also had had “Bhai Bahan” in 1950, 1959 and 1969.
“Bhai Bhai”(1970) was directed by Raj Nawathe for R M Art International, Bombay. This “social” movie had Sunil Dutt, Asha Parekh, Mehmood, Pran, Leela Chitnis, Manmohan Krishna, Madan Puri, Raj Mehra, Jeevan, Ifthikhar, Aruna Irani,Mukri, Mohan Choti, Rasheed Khan, Asit Sen, Hercules, Keshav Rana, Raj Kishore, Shetty, Anwar Ali, Jagdish Raj, Maruti, Sundar, B B Bhalla, JankiDas, Brahm Bhardwaj, Vishva Mehra, Sabita CHatterjee, Lala Nazir etc in it.
“Bhai Bhai”(1970) had six songs in it. Three songs have been covered in the blog. The last song from the movie was covered in 2011 and there has been a dry spell of 14 years of this movie in the blog.
This song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
Only audio of the song is available. Movie is available on youtube but the uploader has deleted all the songs from the uploaded print. What was he thinking ? What is left of a Hindi movie if half a dozen songs are deleted from the movie ?
In the absence of the video of the song, we can only guess how the song was picturised. The lyrics and the music is quite catchy and interesting. I would have loved this song had I got to listen to this song during 1970s. My guess is that plethora of other popular songs from the era was the reason why this song failed to get popular during its time. Now, 55 years later, when I listen to it, it sounds like a dance song that should have been as popular as “Jhumka gira re Bareilly ke baazaar mein”. By the way, this song also contains the word Bareilly in it. I will not be surprised if this song was picturised like that famous Jhumka song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the pictuurisation of this wonderful song.

PS:-Our inhouse human search engine extraordinaire Prakashchandra pointed me towards the source of the video of this song. The video shows that this song is picturised as a stage dance song on Asha Parekh.
