Hullo Atuldom
The song in this post is the perfect candidate for the “how come this song was not posted earlier” category. It being the most popular song of the film. There have been three songs posted on the blog, out of eight (I think) that this movie has, and this song is mentioned in at least two of these posts.
Avinash ji, in his post of the song “Jeene Ko To Jeete Hain Sabhi“, wondered how today’s song missed a place in that year’s Top 30 of the famous Binaca Geetmala.
Nahm ji has given the complete story of this movie in her post of the song “Mil Gayeen Aaj Do Lehren“. She has also pointed towards the connection between the song in that post with today’s song.
The movie had made it’s debut on the blog with the song “Maine Tujhe Kabhi Kuchh Kaha Tha“.
I am talking of ‘Ye Vaada Raha’ (1982) which was directed by Kapil Kapoor for Rose Movies, Bombay. It was produced by Ramesh Behl. It had Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Poonam Dhillon, Sarika, Rakhi, Rakesh Bedi, Iftekhar, Agha, Sundar, Gulshan Bawra, Hari Shivdasani, and others. Shammi Kapoor made a special appearance in this movie. The film has six (but I think I have counted eight songs because one is a multi-version song) songs penned by Gulshan Bawra and composed to music by Rahul Dev Burman.
Revisiting ‘Ye Vaadaa Rahaa’ today on the occasion of Gulshan Bawra’s birth anniversary. He would have been 85 today. He was associated with many popular songs in his career – songs which were tuned by Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal, RD Burman and other music composers of the 70s, 80s and 90s. The last movie for which he penned songs was the Akshay Kumar- Twinkle Khanna starrer ‘Zulmi’ which released in 1999. It had music by Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen; he had also appeared on the screen in this movie.
Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle with Rishi performing a waltz with an imaginary partner and then Poonam joins him. The video that I found on YouTube has all the versions stitched together. So, the second part of the song begins 3 minutes into the video where Tina Munim is reminiscing her days with Rishi Kapoor. I am unable to find videos where the three versions are separate.
Song-Tu, Tu Hai Wahi Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha (Ye vaada Raha)(1982) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Gulshan Baawra, MD-RD Burman

Lyrics
la la la la la laa
la la la la la la
la la
la la la la la lala la la
tu tu hai wahi dil ne jise apna kaha
tu hai jahaan main hoon vahaan
ab to ye jeena tere bin hai saza
ho mil jaayen is tarah do lehren jis tarah
ho mil jaayen is tarah do lehre jis tarah
phir ho naa juda
haan yeh vaada raha
la la la la la la
la la la la la
main aawaaz hoon toh tu hai geet mera
main aawaaz hoon toh tu hai geet mera
jahaan se niraala manmeet mera
mil jaayen is tarah
do lehren jis tarah
ho mil jaayen is tarah
do lehren jis tarah
phir ho naa juda
haan ye vaada raha
kisi mod pe bhi naa yeh saath toote
mere haath se teraa daaman naa chhoote
la la
la la la la
la la la
kabhi khwaab mein bhi tu mujhase naa roothhe
mere pyaar ki koyi khushiyaan naa loote
mil jaayen iss tarah
do lehren jis tarah
ho o mil jaayen iss tarah
do lehren jis tarah
phir ho naa juda
haan ye vaada raha
tu tu hai wahi
dil ne jise apna kaha
tu hai jahaan main hoon vahaan
ab to ye jeeina tere bin hai saza
tujhe main jahaan ki nazar se chura loon
kahin dil ke kone mein tujhko chhupa loon
kabhi zindagi mein pade mushkilen to
mujhe tu sambhaale tujhe main sambhaaloon
ho mil jaayen iss tarah
do lehren jis tarah
ho mil jaayen iss tarah
do lehren jis tarah
phir ho naa juda haan ye vaada raha
tu tu hai wahi
dil ne jise apna kaha
tu hai jahaan main hoon vaha
ab to ye jina tere bin hai saza
ho la la la la la la
lalalalala
phir ho naa juda
haan ye vaada raha
ye vaada raha

Thanks for the post Peevesie’s Mom ji. Songs of this movie are all special and I love them all. They also brings back many memories of those special school years (and the ‘crush’ 🙂 ).
I can see that I have further opportunity to present the remaining songs from this movie including my most favorite from this movie, which has been left out by Prakash ji. (Thanks).
Regards,
