Hullo Atuldom

We are on the last weekend for the year 2025. The world has just celebrated Christmas. We will be welcoming 2026 in 4 days. I am sure many educational institutions are closed for Christmas Holidays and (working) parents would have also taken the opportunity to take their wards out for vacations. Here is wishing everyone A Happy Yuletide.

There was a period in the history of Hindi films when three actors viz. DEV ANAND- DILIP KUMAR- RAJ KAPOOR ruled over the film- viewing sensibilities of the Hindi film audiences. There were fans who copied the style of either one or other of these three. Then after a brief period it was Rajesh Khanna who influenced audiences, which was followed by the Amitabh Bachchan wave. Post that we have not seen audiences going crazy about one or other actor, though the entertainment world has had great looking, dancing, emoting, charismatic actors. But none of these could rake up the frenzy as seen in the DEV-DILIP- RAJ period or the KAKA (as Rajesh Khanna was called) or the Big B (as Amitabh Bachchan was called) wave.

In late 1980s three actors made their way into the world of entertainment. Aamir Khan had his first role in Ketan Mehta’s ‘Holi’ (1984), prior to that he had been an assistant to his uncle Nasir Hussain. Shahrukh Khan was seen in a few television serials like ‘Dil Dariya’ ‘Fauji’ ‘Circus’ etc. on Doordarshan. Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan (or Salman Khan as the world knows him) made his debut in a supporting role in ‘Biwi Ho To Aisi’ (1988); post that he was seen in a few ads. Major hits (QSQT for Aamir Khan; MPK for Salman Khan, ‘Deewana’ for SRK) catapulted the three to top league and ever since their fan-following has not ebbed. It is interesting to note that there has been no film (till date) that had all three in its cast much like the fact that there are no films with Dev-Dilip-Raj in the cast. Of course, we have had films which had Salman & Shahrukh together as well as Aamir & Salman together. But fans are still waiting for the one film with all three in the cast, sharing screen space.

2025 is the year when the three Khans turn 60. I have written the following posts for the birthdays of Aamir & Shahrukh Khan

Actor Birthday and date of post Birthday post
Aamir Khan 14 March 2025 Is deewaane ladke ko koi samjhaaye
Shahrukh Khan 2 November 2025 Pump up the bhangda

Here is wishing Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan a.k.a. Salman Khan a very Happy Birthday on turning 60. Wishing him lots of good health & happiness on this occasion.

Followers of Hindi films know that Salman Khan is the oldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife (a Hindu) Sushila Charak; who adopted the name Salma after marrying Salim Khan. Hence, Salman was brought up in both faiths. We have heard of the grand Ganesh Chaturthi & ID celebrations in his household. According to Salim Khan their ancestry can be traced to Pashtuns of Afghanistan, who immigrated to Indore state in the mid 1800s. Sushila Charak’s (Salma Khan) ancestry is said to be Dogra Rajput on paternal side & Maratha on maternal side. Salman has two brothers who are also actors & filmmakers & two sisters. Yesteryear Dancing actress Helen is Salman’s second mother as she is Salim Khan’s second wife.

As I said earlier, Salman made his debut in films in a supporting role in ‘Biwi Ho To Aisi’. His next release was Rajshri Productions ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ which was a huge hit and then there has been no looking back. There have been lean phases in the late 1990s but he resurrected his screen image with the action film ‘Wanted’ (2009), and achieved greater stardom the following decade by starring in the top-grossing action films ‘Dabangg’ (2010), ‘Ready’ (2011), ‘Bodyguard’ (2011), ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (2012), ‘Dabangg 2’ (2012), ‘Kick’ (2014), and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017) most of which were films with action & doses of comedy thrown in for extra flavour. The dramas ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015) and ‘Sultan’ (2016) further cemented his position. He has starred in the annual highest-grossing Hindi films of 10 individual years, the highest for any actor. In addition to his acting career, Khan is a television presenter and promotes humanitarian causes through his charity, Being Human Foundation. He has been hosting the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ since 2010.

Let us celebrate Bhaijaan’s (as people who adore him in & outside the film industry address him) with a lively song from the 1996 released “Dushman Duniya Ka”. The film was directed by Mehmood (one of his last films if I am not wrong) and produced by Ashok Mishra, Babubhai, Masoom Ali under the Canmore Cinema banner. It starred Jeetendra, Sumalatha, Manzoor Ali, Laila (I have seen her in another film as Tusshar Kapoor’s heroine too) while Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan appeared in guest appearances. The film also had Ashok Kumar, Nasir Khan (Johnny Walker’s son), Ali Asgar, Farida Jalal, Anjana Mumtaz, Mehmood, Jagdish Raj, Janakidas, Johnny Lever, Raza Murad etc in supporting roles. It marked the debut of Laila and Manzoor Ali. The music was composed by Anu Malik and Ravindra Jain was the lyricist (unusual combination I feel). Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet, Asha Bhosle, Sudesh Bhosle, Lucky Ali & Mehmood were the playback singers used.

There was a parody song ‘Mere Naujawano Pyare Naujawano’ (which I am presenting today) sung by Amit Kumar. It had the same tune and rhythm of the song ‘Mere Bhole Balam’ (Meri Pyari Bindu) from the 1968 film ‘Padosan’, which was an R.D. Burman composition. It was recreated by Anu Malik. This song was a tribute to Kishore Kumar by his son Amit Kumar who sung the song. The song has the names of a few of films in its lyrics.

An interesting trivia about the characters that Shahrukh & Salman played in the film is

(1) Shah Rukh Khan played Badru, a Rickshaw driver. His character is a tribute to Mehmood’s character butler Mahesh Rane from 1965 film ‘Gumnaam’.

(2) Salman Khan played himself. Only, he acts and dresses as Kishore Kumar’s character Vidyapati (Guru), saying that he is going to be acting in Padosan Part 2. His character is a tribute to Kishore Kumar.

I had seen the video of this song ages back and thought it will should be here on the blog, so here it is.

Song-Mere naujawaanon o pyaare naujawaanon (Dushman Duniya Ka)(1996) Singer-Amit Kumar, Lyricist-Ravindra Jain, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

dhinglalai huinglalai
dhinglalai huinglalai

mere naujawaanon
o pyaare naujawaanon
un dilon ko dhadakne kee
ijaazat naheen hai
ke jinmein mel naheen
ke jinmein mel naheen
hai dostee talwaar kee ik dhaar pe chalna
ye koi khel naheen
ye koi khel naheen

takraar chhodo
arre yoon munh na modo
haaye re dil dil se jodo
ho o jo aag lagaaye
tumko ladaaye
yaad rakkho
un tilon mein tel naheen
un dilon ko dhadakne kee
ijaazat naheen hai
ke jinmein mel naheen

arre guru Raaman
Salman Bhai baat to pate kee kar rahe hain

ee jicchiyaa
to inka pata note kiya jaaye

huhuhu hu
arre baangdoo jee
agar aap hamaara pata poochhenge
to hum bhee aapse poochhenge
ke hum aapke hain kaun
hahaha

dhinglalai huinglalai
dhinglalai

arre kaan ke kachche
mere bachchon ke bachche
bin bamboo ke sofey
be pendee ke lotey
sun chhote nawaab
tu bhoot bangle kee koi daastaan sunaa
padosan pat jaayegee
tujh se lipat jaayegee
tu kar ke usse byaah
le ke honeymoon kee chaah
Bombay to Goa jaana
Saat din kuchh na khaana

hmm sapnon kee raanee
ho teree prem deewaanee
usey na sataana
pal pal pal pal na rulaana
mere sur mein sur mila
aur tu bhee sang sang gaa
Ramaiyya Vastavaiyya
O maine pyaar kiya

bandhu re ae ae ae ae
bandhu re ae ae ae ae
ae ae ae
bandhu re ae ae ae hey ae
aiun

madhyaantar
kaam karke waapas aaiye
hmm
hm hmm
hmm
