“Mausi”(1958) was directed by Prabhat Kumar for Rajkamal Kala mandir, Bombay. The movie had Sumati Gupte, Vandana, Baburao Pendharkar, Reshma, Ranjana Shukla, Asha Devi, Ramesh Deo, Rajkamal, R V Rane, Putlibai, Baby Mumtaz, Rajguru Deshmukh, Roohi, K Date etc in it.
The movie had six songs in it. Three songs from the movie have been covered in the blog in the past. The last song from the movie was covered in 2017.
After a gap of nearly eight years, here is the fourth song from “Mausi”(1958) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Lata Mangehkar. Bharat Vyas is the lyricist. Music is composed by Vasant Desai.
The mukhda of this song is similar to the song “Mere angna mein ujiyaala meree godee mein gopala” from “Pyaar Ki Pyaas”(1961). Incidentally that song too had the same lyricist and music director, and that song too had the voice of Lata Mangeshkar in that. But that song was a female duet sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Geeta Dutt. The song under discussion is a Lata Mangeshkar solo song and it predates the “Pyaar Ki Pyaas”(1961) female duet by three years.
The video of “Pyaar Ki Pyaas”(1961) song is available, but in case of “Mausi”(1958) song, only audio is available. From the lyrics, one can guess that this song is It is a mother child song where the child is likened to Gopal, viz Lord Krishn. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.
