‘Hari Darshan-1972’ was directed by Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 24.08.1972. The star cast of this movie includes Randhawa, B. Saroja Devi, Abhi Bhattacharya, Shahu Modak, Asit Sen, Sujata, Kalpana Deewan, Padma Rani, Sanjana, Sadhna Khote, Sarla, Anwari, Rekha Chouhan, Babu Raje, Himmat Singh Chouhan, Ram Rasila, Satyajit, Jr. Mehmood, Baby Rupa, and others. And Dara Singh, Jayshree Gadkar, Arvind Trivedi in special appearance.
This movie has tens songs written by Kavi Pradeep and its Music was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Three songs from this movie (including one triple version song) have already been posted on this blog earlier. That makes fives songs from this movie already covered on this blog. Today I am presenting the next song from this movie which is a two-part song. With this, seven songs out of ten for this movie get covered on this blog.
As mentioned earlier this movie ‘Hari Darshan-1972’ is a mythological movie and it is mainly about Bhakt Prahlad and his devotion towards Lord Vishnu i.e. Hari.
The movie also briefly covers the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
In my previous post I had covered a ‘triple version’ song from this movie of which the first version is played with the titles of this movie. This first version of the song ‘jai jai narayan narayan hari hari’ has Arvind Trivedi playing Hari ‘Kathaavachak’. He lip-syncs the first version in the voice of Mahendra Kapoor telling the audience (seated in front of him in the movie) the story of Lord Vishnu and his ten incarnations.
After the title song we have the ‘Kathaavachak’ reciting the ‘vishnu-puraan kathhaa’ to the audience in front of him. He says …
भक्तजनों विष्णु पुराण की कथा भक्त और भगवान की कथा है ! जिस प्रकार इस जीवन में क्रोध, भय, चिंता, मोह, और प्रेम आदि व्यवस्था में एक ही मनुष्य भिन्न भिन्न रूप धारण करता है उसी प्रकार जगत का कल्याण करने के लिए भगवान विष्णु भिन्न भिन्न अवतार लेकर, पृथ्वी पर आते हैं ! प्रेम से सुनिये ….
It was at this point that the first part of the song under discussion gets played.
After the first part of this song is played the story of the movie takes us to the episode of the ‘Varaah avtaar’ of Vishnu i.e. the story of Hiranyaksha and Varaah (the Boar avtaar of Vishnu). Hiranyaksha drags the earth to the bottom of the sea and Lord Vishnu took a form of a Boar to rescue and save the earth killing the demon Hiranyaksha. Enraged by his brothers killing the demon king Hiranyaksha undertook severe and hard penance to secure several boons from Lord Brahma so that nobody on this earth and even gods can kill him.
The story in the movie then moves further to the story of Hiranyakashyap and his son Prahlad. The demon king Hiranyakashyap hates his son when he discovers that Prahlad is a devotee of Vishnu and he is growing up with his devotion to Vishnu day by day. He tries by many ways to influence his Pralhad so that he stops worshipping Vishnu. However all his efforts go in vain and whenever he even tries to kill his son, each time he returns safe as god Vishnu protects Pralhad from every danger and threat to his life. However Pralhad refuses to acknowledge his father as the supreme lord as demanded by his father, who tries to stop him from his devotion to Vishnu. One day when King Hiranyakashyap asks his son Pralhad if his god is omnipresent and all-pervasive, is he available in a pillar of his palace too, which Pralhad replies ‘yes’, king Hiranyakashyap gets angry and in his fury he hits the pillar with his mace. As soon as he hits the pillar, it breaks down with a thunder and Lord Vishnu appears in his ‘Narsimha avtaar’ from the pillar. In this ‘Narsimha incarnation he is part Lion (the upper part) andpart man ( the lower part).He holds down Hiranyakashyap on his lap, tears his stomach and kills him. All the gods from the ‘dev-lok’ come to thank Lord Vishnu. However, ‘Narsimha’ is so furious and angry that nobody has the courage to speak to him and pacify him. It is then that the Gods request the little Pralhad to request Vishnu to calm down, thinking that only a little child will be able to pacify the furious Narsimha.
It is there that the second part of this song is played in the movie.
Abhi Bhattacharya, Jayshree Gadkar, Babu Raje, Master Satyajit and many others are visible in the picturisation of the song.
The song further describes the remaining Incarnations of Vishnu i.e. ‘Waaman avtaar’, ‘Dattaatrya avtaar’, ‘Parshuraam avtaar’, ‘Prabhu Raam’, ‘Rishabhdev’, ‘Shree Krishna’, and ‘Gautam Budhh’. This engrossing composition then ends on the following note …
