Today’s song is from the movie ‘Bombay By Nite-1976’ (I don’t know why ‘night’ was spelled as ‘nite’ in the film title 🙂 ).
This ‘social’ movie was directed by A. Shamsheer for Upendra Films, Bombay. The cast of this movie had Prithviraj Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Kumkum, Ramesh Deo, Bela Bose, Asit Sen, Lata Sinha, Mohan Choti, Heera Sawant, Sadiq, Sujata, Johny Whisky, Ashok Razdan, Neelkamal, Lala Nazeer, Arun Chaudhary, Geeta Kaushal, Mahesh, Rinku, Devendra Kumar, Pratap Kumar, Mopet Rajesh and others. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 09.04.1976. Which means this movie will turn fifty years old next month on 08.04.2026.
‘Bombay By Night-1976’ had made its debut on the blog long back on 23rd August 2012, where our respected Sudhir jee had presented its song ‘bahaaron ne kiye sajde’. This song is in the voice of Mukesh. In his post Sudhir jee had given some trivia about this movie that is reproduced below:-
As I was checking out the Geet Kosh entry for this film, I noticed a very peculiar thing about this film. In a decade where practically all the films had their songs released on EPs, SPs and LPs, this film, released in 1976, has its songs released on 78 rpm records. There are a total of 6 songs in this film. The six songs are released on three 78 rpm records. Besides of course there are two EPs also listed for the same songs. The film is in black and white, another rarity in the 70s decade. One possibility is that this film possibly belongs to the earlier decade, and its release was delayed. That might explain the fact that a very young looking Kum Kum is playing the coy leading lady in this 1976 release, whereas she has appeared in a somewhat more elderly role, paired with Pran, in the 1973 film ‘Ek Kunwaari, Ek Kunwaara’.
Elsewhere, some sources on internet mention that this movie might have been a delayed movie and for Prithviraj Kapoor it was his last released movie which was released after his death.
Secondly what I noticed and Sudhir jee has also mentioned in his post about the lyricist of this movie and the production banner of this movie.
The songs of this film are written by Upendra. (I wonder if the banner name and the name of lyricist pertain to the same person, quite possible).
As a lyricist he has written lyrics for movies like ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Baat-1959’, ‘Black Prince (Yuvraj)-1963’, ‘Panch Ratan-1965’, ‘Teen Chehrey-1979’ and ‘Krishna Krishna-1976’. As of now I have not checked his biographical information (either already available on this blog or elsewhere).
‘Bombay By Night-1976’ has six songs composed by Iqbal Qureshi. As mentioned above Upendra is the lyricist. The playback singers for this movie are Mahendra Kapoor, Krishna Kalle, Sharda, Mukesh, Suman Kalyanpur, Kishore Kumar and Sulakshana Pandit.
Today I am presenting a song sung by Krishna Kalle. I do not remember to have listened to this song earlier. And I guess that this movie’s songs were not easily available earlier, but now it seems that most of them are now available on internet.
Today’s song seems to be a ‘club-dance song’. Only audio of this is available. This is a nice entertaining song to listen to.
