Today’s song is a part of my growing up. Hearing it makes me very nostalgic and takes me back to 1981, the year I passed out of my undergrad degree and had joined the queue to land a good job. I eventually got a fantastic job as a Medical Rep for the #1 Pharma company in India – Glaxo Ltd (now GSK Ltd). Our in house encyclopaedia Arunkumar Ji has also spent a considerable amount of time in Glaxo and can vouch for my saying that it was a proud feeling, always.

Now coming to today’s song, “Tujhsa Haseen Dekha Na Kahin” is sung by Kishore Kumar, written by Gulshan Bawra and composed by Rahul Dev Burman. It is from the 1981 film “Harjaee”.

“Harjaayee” (1981) was a Sonnar Films Private Limited movie. The movie was produced by Saam Sugnu and N Jethwani. The movie was directed by Ramesh. The movie had Randhir Kapoor, Tina Munim, Shammi Kapoor, Mala Simha, Sharat Saxena, Rajendranath, Hari Shivdasani, Sundar, Ifthekar, Mahaveer Shah, Ravi Berry, Siddu, Aditya etc in it.

The film blends romance, comedy, and melodrama around a reckless young man whose prank turns into a tragic possibility.

The story of the film is:

Ajay Nath (Randhir Kapoor) is a mischievous young man who often tricks his parents in order to enjoy life freely. When he wants permission to go on a holiday to Kashmir with friends, he asks the family doctor, Dr. Panjabi, to lie to his father and say that Ajay is terminally ill with cancer. Believing his son is dying, Ajay’s father becomes sympathetic and grants him permission.

During this trip Ajay meets Geeta Chopra (Tina Munim), a kind-hearted college girl who is already romantically involved with a young man named Shyam. Ajay falls deeply in love with her. Because Ajay’s father thinks his son is seriously ill, he requests Geeta to show compassion toward Ajay and spend time with him so that his last days may be happy. Out of sympathy she befriends him.

Gradually, Geeta begins to see Ajay’s good nature behind his mischievous personality. Their friendship turns into genuine love, and the two decide that they want to marry. However, just when their relationship becomes serious, shocking news arrives: doctors now suspect that Ajay may actually have cancer for real and may only have a short time to live.

This revelation changes everything. Both Ajay’s family and Geeta’s family oppose the marriage because they do not want Geeta to become a widow shortly after the wedding. Ajay and Geeta are then forced to confront painful choices between love, duty, and the uncertain future. The climax revolves around whether Ajay truly has the fatal illness or whether the situation is yet another twist caused by his earlier prank—and whether the lovers will be able to unite despite the opposition and tragedy surrounding them.

Although Harjaee itself was not among the biggest hits of its era, the song has remained popular among fans of early-1980s Hindi film music.

Overall, “Tujhsa Haseen Dekha Na Kahin” stands as a classic soft-romantic Kishore Kumar number, remembered for its graceful melody, affectionate lyrics, and charming screen chemistry.
