Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) -7 (1987)
—————————————————————
In today’s post we move on to Pancham’s music in 1987.

In this year ‘1987’ too we can see a decline in total number of movies where R.D. Burman had composed music, in comparison to the years 1984 and 1985 where he had composed music for 17 & 18 movies respectively.

In ‘1987’ R.D. Burman had composed music for nine movies as per details given below.

Sno Movie Title Director Lyricist Date of Censor Certificate Status on the Blog/Songs posted on the blog
1 Apne Apne Ramesh Bahl Gulshan Bawra 05.03.1987 0
2 Belagaam Naval Kishore Majrooh Sultanpuri 02.12.1987 0
3 Dacait Rahul Rawail Anand Bakshi 13.03.1987 1
4 Hifaazat Prayag Raj Anand Bakshi 14.09.1987 0

8 Jaliaanwaalaa Baagh Balraj Tah Gulzar 30.01.1987 2
9 Mardonwaali Baat Brij Indeevar 31.12.1987 0

From the above table we can also see that only three movies out of nine movies where R.D. Burman had composed music are represented on the blog.

Today we introduce one more movie from ‘Pancham’s movies of ‘1987’. This movie is ‘Apne Apne’, which is alphabetically the first movie in the above table.

“Apne Apne-1987” was directed by Ramesh Behl for ‘Rose Movies’. Ramesh Behl was also the producer of this movie.

It had Jeetendra, Rekha, Karan Shah, Mandakini, with Satish Shah, Atlee Brar, Dan Dhanoa, Sushma Seth, Bina, Babli, Anjana, Ghanshyam, Chandu, Pandurang Boloor, Lata, Sheela, Leena, Mina, Tina, Rupa, Omi Chopra, Surendre, Rahi, Vasu, Iqbal, Rakesh, Reshma Aurora, Anthony, Prakash, and Kader Khan.
Hema Malini had a special appearance in this movie.

This movie was written by Aziz Qaisi. Sunder Shetty was the editor of this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 05.03.1987.

Lyrics for the songs of this movie were written by Gulshan Bawra. And music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar, Suresh Wadkar, R.D. Burman had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Here is the list of songs of this movie.

SNo Song Title Singer
01 Apne apne se lage hamen Lata Mangeshkar, Suresh Wadkar
02 Idhar bhi tu, udhar bhi tu Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar
03 Toone kiya kya jaadoo R.D. Burman
04 Teri yaad mein neend nahin aayee Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar
05 Jo socha bhi na tha wo honewaala hai Asha Bhonsle
06 Gyaan daan hi sabse badaa hai Lata Mangeshkar, chorus

Today’s song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. The song appears in two parts in the movie. Tthe first part is lip-synced by Rekha. We can see Jeetendra and others (including many child artists) in the picturisation of this part.

The second part is picturised on Mandakini, with others present in the picturisation of this song. After listening to this part-2, I can guess that the video clip for part-2 is including two stanzas on different situations. The last stanza plays in the background when Rekha is about to die in this movie. And we can see Hemal Malini, Jeetendra, Mandakini, Karan Shah, Bina present there.

This composition is a wonderful composition to listen to. Lyrics are by Gulshan Bawra and music is composed by R.D. Burman.

Let us now listen to today’s song.

“Raahi Badal Gaye”(1985) was produced by Ravi Malhotra and directed by Ravi Tandon. The movie had Rishi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Suresh Oberoi, Padmini Kolhapure, Prem Kalra, Rajendra Nath, Shakti Kapoor, Asha Lata etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it.

Here is the first song from the movie to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata. Gulshan Bawra is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

This “expression of love” song is picturised on Rishi Kapoor and Shabana Azmi, with the latter looking out of her comfort zone as she often did in romantic songs.

With this song, “Raahi Badal Gaye”(1985) makes its debut in the blog.

Lyrics

ek baat dil mein aayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon
ek baat dil mein aayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon
kehne ka mausam bhi hai
uspe ye tanhaayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon
o o o
baat dil mein aayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon
ek baat dil mein aayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon

kayi baar chaaha maine
tujhi ko churaa loon tujhse
hey kayi baar chaaha maine
tujhi ko chura loon tujhse
kahin waadiyon mein dil ki
duniya sajaa loon tujhse
shaayad tu kuchh samajh gayi
isi liye sharmaayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon
bolo bolo bolo
baat dil mein aayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon
ek baat dil mein aayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon

o o o
o o o
aa aa aa
jhalak teri dekhi pahli
doosra na bhaaya tabse
o o
jhalak teri dekhi pahli
doosra na bhaaya tabse
mere devta is dil mein
tu hi tu samaaya tab se
yahi haqeeqat hai
jo ke barson talak chupaayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon
bolo bolo bolo
baat dil mein aayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon
ek baat dil mein aayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon

der se miley hain lekin
mil to gaye hain aakhir
hey der se miley hain lekin
mil to gaye hain aakhir
chalo phool aashaaon ke
khil to gaye hain aakhir

mil ke bhi hum door hain kyun
pyaar ki ye ruswaayi hai
kahoon ya na kahoon

“Kaun Kaise”(1983) was produced by Raj Valia and directed by Anil Ganguly for R V Productions, Bombay. The movie, which was a suspense movie, had Mithun Chakraborthy, Ranjeeta Kaur, Deepak Parashar, Anita Raj, Deven Verma, Ardhendu Bose, Prem Krishan, Narendranath, Bharat Kapoor, Beena, Ritika Singh, Asha Sharma, Dinesh Hingoo, Shubha Khote, Janki Das, Rajrani Sethi, Jagdish Raj, Neelu Arora, Zunuvia, Taneja, Ashok Gupta, A.A.Deepak, Indrajit Mukarji, Ratnakar, Prema, Dinesh.P., Kumari, Diwakar, Raju, Mohamed, Mehboob, Arpana Chowdhry, Gita Siddharth etc in it.

“Kaun Kaise”(1983) had five songs in it.

Here is the first song from “Kaun Kaise”(1983) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar. Gulshan Bawra is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

The song is picturised as a disco dance song on Mithun Chakraborty who is seen mobbed by girls. Mithun Chakraborty was known for figuring in disco dance songs those days in every movie, even in movies where his roles called for more restrained behaviour, as in this movie. Here he plays a police inspector who is out to solve a murder mystery. But then Hindi movie heroes and heroines cannot help but break into a song and dance routine even if they are shown deaf and dumb -for instance Jayaprada in “Sargam”(1978). So Mithun da, a police inspector singing and dancing in a rather un police official like manner should not, and did not raise any eyebrows. 🙂

This movie had come about at a time when I had stopped following Hindi movies and I was neither aware of this movie nor its songs. The song itself is quite hummable. This song is not counted among the best known songs of those days, so it means that this song and the movie may not have done all that well.

With this song, “Kaun Kaise”(1983) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Tera teer pe teer chalaana (Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye)(1963) Singers-Mahendra Kapoor, Lata, Lyrics-Gulshan Bawra, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

tera teer pe teer chalaana

kaise bhoolega dil wo tera tadpaana

ik din toone mere seene pe sharmaa ke rakha sar apna
ik din toone mere seene pe sharmaa ke rakha sar apna
banke mehmaan mere ghar aaye
mere dil mein bana liya ghar apna

dil ka dil mein rahe thhikaana
jalta hai to jale zamaana
kaise bhoolega dil wo tera sharmaana
kaise bhoolega dil wo tera tadpaana

wo pahle pahal tera aa jaana
chhup chhup ke haseen raaton mein

chhup chhup ke haseen raaton mein

milte thhe kabhi hum chhup chhup ke
saawan ki jawaan barsaaton mein
aise mein dil ka ghabraana
koi dekh na le begaana
kaise bhoolega dil wo tera tadpaana

hoy kaise bhoolega dil wo tera sharmaana
tera teer pe teer chalaana
mera ghaayal sa ho jaana
kaisa bhoolega dil wo tera sharmaana

This movie, which is far less known than “Chori Chori”(1956), had six songs that are equally obscure.

Here is the first song from “Chori Chori”(1973) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Mukesh. Gulshan Bawra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan, just like what was the case for “Chori Chori”(1956). In reality it was just Shankar, seeing that Jaikisha had expired in 1970.

Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

With this song, “Chori Chori”(1973) makes its debut in the blog.
PS-One partial video is available. One can see that this song is lip synced by Shashi Kapoor.

Song-Vaasta hi na jab raha tumse (Chori Chori)(1973) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Gulshan Bawra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

vaasta hi na jab raha tumse
phir jafaaon ka kya gila tumse
vaasta hi na jab raha tumse
phir jafaaon ka kya gila tumse
tum kisi gair ki amaanat ho
kaisa shiqva-gila bhala tumse
vaasta hi na jab raha

dard de ke paraaye ho baithhe
kaise maangoon main ab dava tumse
dard de ke paraaye ho baithhe
kaise maangoon main ab dava tumse
kam se kam jhoothhi tassali dete
haaye ye bhi na ho saka tumse
vaasta hi na jab raha

chand roti hui yaadon ke siva
dekh lo kuchh nahin liya tumse
chand roti hui yaadon ke siva
dekh lo kuchh nahi liya tumse
yaaron hanste ho mujhpe khoob hanso
aur ho bhi sakega kya tumse
vaasta hi na jab raha

uski kismat pe rashq aataa hai
jiske dil ka jahaan basa tumse
uski kismat pe rashq aataa hai
jiske dil ka jahaan basa tumse
achchhi kismat hi nahin thhi apni
kaise kah doon bura hua tumse
vaasta hi na jab raha tumse
phir jafaaon ka kya gila tumse
vaasta hi na jab raha

“Jhoothha Kahin Ka”(1979) was directed by Ravi Tandon for R M Films, Bombay. This “social” movie had Rishi Kapoor, Nitu Singh, Rakesh Roshan, Prem Chopra, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappoo, Indrani Mukherji, Helen, Preeti Ganguly, Keshto Mukherji, Ifthikhar, Hari Shivdasani, Yunus Parvez, Indira Bansal, Mushtaq Merchant, Hungama, Harish, Dharamveer, R P Sethi, Brahm Bhardwaj, Vandana Shashtri, Vikas Anand, O P Goyal, Gauri Verma etc in it.

This movie had five songs in it. This was the usual boy meets girl genre of movie. Rishi Kapoor and Nitu Singh were just what the doctor ordered for such movies (as Ravi Shatri would say three decades later 🙂 ) I have lost count of the movies where the two of them acted together in several movies with similar stories.

Three songs from the movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fourth song from “Jhoothha Kahin Ka”(1979) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Gulshan Bawra is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

Only the audio seems to be available on YT. But I have seen the video of this song. The song is picturised as a cabarat dance song on Helen in a hotel where Rishi Kapoor takes Nitu Singh. If Helen is there in the starcast then one cabarat dance featuring her is bound to be there in the movie. 🙂 And this movie would be no different from others in this respect, of course.

PS-Now the video link is also available. My thanks to Prakashchandra for finding it.

Today, we are celebrating the 3400th day that this blog has been operating.

And we Yippeee a film that has been waiting for more than two years for the final song to come online. 🙂

Sometimes, Atul ji springs a wonderful surprise. And at a very short notice too. It is 8.30 pm in the night (on 7th Nov). I am just casually checking my emails. Plop. There is a message from him. We have a significant and a very different type of milestone lined up for tomorrow (8th Nov). The immediate next sentence, he is quickly clarifying that no, the said milestone has nothing to do with demonetization anniversary or any other subject of Indian economy. The next sentence he clarifies, without building any suspense or delays in his words. 8th Nov is exactly the 3400th day of the continued existence of our blog. A few lights start blinking inside the head. Wow, – thanks ji, – what a surprise, – such a different type of milestone, – gosh tomorrow, – what a scramble, – and in a secret corner, another light blinks that says – अरे सर, थोड़ा एडवांस नोटिस तो देना चाहिए॰ ॰ ॰ खैर॰ ॰ ॰
