“Ujaala” (1942) was produced by M Ehsan (though M A Mughani was credited as producer) and directed by K M Multani for Taj Mahal Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Prithviraj Kapoor, Naseem Bano, Mubarak, Ratan Bai, Mirza Musharaf, Baby Vinod Kumari, Jilani etc in it.
“Ujaala” (1942) had six songs in it. One song has been covered in the past. In that post, Sadanand Kamath jee gave some very interesting information about producer M Ehsan and the production house of Taj Mahal Pictures, Bombay.
Here is the second song from “Ujaala”(1942) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Naseem Bano. Bashir Dehalvi is the music director. Lyricist is not known, but Kamal Amrohi the dialogue writer of this movie could well be the lyricist.
Only audio of the song is available. It is clear that the song was picturised on Naseem Bano herself.
Naseem Bano was not a very accomplished singer, but this song sounds nice to listen to. This could well be one of her better attempts at singing a song in her career. The lyrics (by the unknown lyricist) and simple music to keep up with her singing limitations has ensured that this song has a nice old world charm about it. It is a good “puraani film ka geet” from the early days of Hindi movies.
I have not been able to get a few words right in the lyrics in the penultimate stanza of the song. I requent our readers with keener ears to help fill in the words/ suggest corrections in the lyrics as applicable.
