Today I am presenting the third song from the movie “Sher Afghan-1966”. This movie was introduced on the blog on 15.04.2015 by our Respected Sudhir jee. He had then shared this song ‘ae bahaar e zindagee tum mil gayin sab kuchh milaa’ from this movie.
While presenting this song he had mentioned among other things the following about the details of this movie. I am reproducing edited text from his post here below.
As per records, this is the last film of the music director duo Husnlal Bhagatram. After this film, the two parted company, with Husnlal migrating to Delhi. This film is the only one in which Hasrat Jaipuri has written all the lyrics for the music of this duo. They had come together earlier in the 1961 film ‘Apsara’, but in that film, there were three lyricists (GS Nepali and Qamar Jalaalabaadi, besides Hasrat), and Hasrat Jaipuri wrote just one or two songs for that film.
“Sher Afghan-1966”was directed by B.R. Jhingan for ‘Shankar Movietone, Bombay’. It had Prithviraj, Nishi, Premnath, Suresh, Hiralal, Maruti, Ulhas, Zeb Rahman and others. HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970) lists six songs for this movie leaving a space indicating possibility of more songs might have recorded for this movie. Lyricist Hasrat Jaipuri wrote all the songs for this movie. And music for this movie was composed by Husnlal-Bhagatram. As mentioned earlier this movie seems to be an obscure and forgotten movie of its time. And regulars on this blog are well aware that very often we have come across such movies having some great music which remained lesser heard or lost in the midst time. Today’s song is one such song having great lyrics but turning out to be a rare and lesser heard song.
The playback singers for this movie are Mukesh, Suman Kalyanpur, Asha Bhonsle and Minoo Puroshottam. Asha Bhonsle and Minoo Puroshottam had only one song i.e. the female duet song in this movie. Whereas the voice of Suman Kalyanpur featured in five songs and the voice of singer Mukesh featured in only one song in this movie.
Today I am presenting the third song from this movie which is in the voice of Suman Kalyanpur. I do not remember to have listened to this song earlier anywhere. Lyrics are by Hasrat Jaipuri and music is composed by Husnlal-Bhagatram. I have been unable to note down correct words at few places, which I would request readers with keener ears to suggest/add there please.
