Raag Maalikaa in Hindi Films – 6

This is a unique RaagaMaalika composed and ably written by music director Ravindra Jain. I have no words to describe the greatness of Ravindra Jain in his excellence to create this truly very different type of composition. His selection of singer Yesudas for this very difficult heavy classical genre is also very very appropriate.

‘Sau Saal Baad’ of 1966 was an unsuccessful ghostly mystery film, produced by B K Dubey. The star cast included Feroz Khan, Kumkum, Manmohan Krishna, Rajendra Nath, D K Sapru etc. Lyrics were by Aanand Bakshi and the superb music by Laxmikant Pyarelal. It was produced under the banner of Atre Pictures and directed by Shahu Modak. Shyama and Shahu Modak were the leading team, but little is known about the other star cast. Vasant Desai composed music to the lyrics of Bharat Vyas. It seems that at least three songs were recorded, a Lata solo (Poonam ki chanderi raaton mein) a Lata Rafi duet (Aaj ke prabhaat ki paheli kiran) and this RaagaMaala.
