Hindi talkies got their start in the 1930s. Hindi Film Music, which started with them, took their own time to find their bearings. Their transition phase lasted several years when they underwent many changes (some of them path breaking ones) before HFM finally found their feet and settled down and got consolidated by 1940s.
I regard this transition phase of Hindi film music as the phase where solid foundation was laid that paved the way for the take off stage for the golden period of Hindi film music of the 50s and 60s.

Why am I producing REHANA (1946)?
This was the heading of a full page advertisement issued by the producer G A Thakur, the owner of Girdhar Bahar Productions in October 1945 issue of ‘Filmindia’ magazine. He was announcing his intention of producing ‘Rehana’ (1946), the story of which is based on the Middle-East background. I have paraphrased below the reasons given by the producer in the advertisement:
