Thus sang the Nightingale of Gujarat, Kaumudi Munshi, who is regarded as the pioneer in popularising the semi-classical non-filmy songs in Gujarati.
Today, October 13, 2021 is first Remembrance Day of vocalist, Kaumudi Munshi, the Gujarat Kokila who regaled her Gujarati admirers spread all over the world with her beautiful renditions of semi-classical non-film songs. She sang in the genres of bhajans, ghazals, thumris, dadras and other forms of ‘sugam sangeet’ in Gujarati and Hindi for over 6 decades.

“Teen Tasweeren”(1954) was produced by Shree Gaglani and directed by S S Solanki for Ashok Studios, Bombay. This movie had Anil, Kishore, Devendra, Neena Makker, Sharda, Munshi Khanjar, Kumar etc in it.

TEEN TASVEEREN (1954) seems to be an obscure film that I became aware of for the first time while listening to a song from the film on Radio Ceylon popular programme ‘purani filmon ke sangeet’ uploaded by eraksoldies on YT. The film was produced under the banner of Ashok Studios and it was directed by S S Solanki, probably a one-film director. The actors who worked in the film were Anil, Kishore, Devendra, Neena Makker, Sharda, Munshi Kanjhar, Kumar etc. I had never heard of these actors’ names except Munshi Kanjhar who had also associated with as screen play-dialogue writer in a few films.

Film industry is one industry where men and women have to work together. Whether it is Actor-director or Singer-Composer, for the sake of work they have to spend much time together. No wonder then that Cupid does his work overtime. Sometimes there are mutual attraction and at times there are one sided fires burning. In most cases the one sided fire is extinguished in a very painful way, like what P L Santoshi faced with actress Rehana or the slap Sanjiv Kumar got from actress Nutan.

This blog has crossed the figure of 6700 songs which have been discussed during the last 4 years 2 months. This prompted me to turn to statistics page of the blog. I counted that this blog has so far covered 298 music directors (MDs), 234 lyricists and 393 singers. These are significant figures compared with the total songs covered in the blog.
