When I saw the caption of this song, “tere pyaar mein dildaar” I thought I recognised this song. When I started to play it, it turned out to be a Lata Mangeshkar song, while I thought it might be a Shamshad Begum sing a composition by O. P. Nayyar from 50’s. It has a very old worldy feel to it. Actually it is from the Film “Mere Mehboob” and it is composed by Naushad. It goes without saying that it is written by Shakeel Badayuni. This is a kind of song, which keeps going on and on in the head long after you have heard it. I heard this song yesterday, after a very long time. It has three long stanzas in rapid speed. I made doubly sure that it was not posted. This should one of the last 2 songs from the film posted here, if earthmusic.net information is correct.

Listening to this song always has the effect of taking me back to 1960s, when things were much more simple and simplified. A song like this had a magical effect on listeners and they felt the urge to be drawn towards the movie halls screening this movie. I am sure this and other songs from this movie were the main reasons why people thronged to watch this movie. Watching Sadhana could be the second (distant) reason and watching Rajendra Kapoor may be the third (even more distant) reason. One only needs to delete all the songs and make people watch this movie, and let us see whether Jubilee Kumar would have really been able to carry the movie as he was reputed to be.

Two female singers dancing in tandem was a staple diet of B grade historical/ mythological movies of 1960s. But here we find the same thing happening in a Muslim social movie. The movie is “Mere Mehboob” (1963) and here Sadhana and Ameeta are found dancing and singing joyously. They sing in the voices of Lata and Asha Bhonsle respectively.
