“Khoobsoorat” (1952) is one of the obscure movies with Madan Mohan’s music in it. I have little idea about the cast of this movie, but I find that this movie has a song sung by Suraiyya. This tells me that Suraiyya was clearly there in this movie as the leading lady. And this also tells me that Madan Mohan in that case had a few of his songs sung by Suraiyya too.

There are some music directors who have composed throusands of songs and discussing most of their songs will take ages. But there are some music directors who have composed much less number of songs and it should be possible for me to post most of their compositions if I put my mind to it.

Sajjad Hussain was a music director who could create amazing music but his ability to make enemies meant that he got very few opportunities to showcase his abilities as a music director. He composed only about one hundred songs in 14 movies. He was described by Anil Biswas as the only original music director in Hindi movies. Coming from Anil Biswas, it is very high praise indeed !

Ek dil ka lagaana baaki thaa

Many people may have noticed that the picturised versions of many songs are often different from their audio versions. One reason could be that the picturised version is often curtailed while editing the movie. But the main reason for the difference between picturised version and audio version is more technical. In olden days, it was technically not possible to record a song once and use it for audio as well as picturised versions. So those days the same song used to be recorded twice- once for the picturisation and once for the audio recording. So one could find some slight, and sometimes, more than slight differences in the two versions of the same song.
