It is a joyous song that would cheer everyone up. How joyfully Rafi has sung this song ! We have seen some joyful Rafi songs in the past. This song is different from them all.

It is mind boggling to realise that there could be so many shades of joys, and that one could express one’s joy in so many different ways. The same lyricist has written songs of joy, but he does ot repeat his ideas from other songs of similar nature. It is amazing to realise that the same lyricst could come up with so many different songs for seemingly similar situations and make them look different.

Additionally one also wonders how one can be so happy at the thought of travelling by the morning train. Was he happy at the prospects of going on a fun filled tour or, or just at the prospect that he would be rid of the place he was staying at ? I thought that only small kids could feel such unalloyed joy. But then childlike joy is the ultimate form of joy, one feels, and Rafi certainly reaches that level in this song.

The team of Shailendra and Shankar Jaikishan, known for delivering hits after hits for Raj Kapoor ( often in songs sung by Mukesh) deliver a winner in a non Raj Kapoor movie song sung by Rafi.

Sawere Wali Gadi se chale jaayenge(Laat Sahab) (1967) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar-Jaikishan

Lyrics

sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge

kuchh le ke jaayenge

sawere waali gaadii se chale jaayenge
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge

ye melaa do ghadi kaa do dinon ki hai bahaar
samay ki bahti dhaar kahtii jaati hai pukaar
ye melaa do ghadi kaa do dinon ki hai bahaar
samay ki bahti dhaar kahti jaati hai pukaar
pukaar haay haay haay-haay
mehmaan kab ruke hain kaise roke jaayenge
mehmaan kab ruke hain kaise roke jaayenge
kuchh le ke jaayenge
ho kuchh de ke jaayenge
sawere waali gaadii sawere waali
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge

lalalalala

milo to milo pyaar se bolo to meethi baat
hamaare bade bhaag huyi tumse mulaakaat
milo to milo pyaar se bolo to meetthi baat
hamaare bade bhaag huyi tumse mulaakaat
mulaakaat haay haay haay
milegaa kuchh to dil jo yahaan kho ke jaayenge
milegaa kuchh to dil jo yahaan kho ke jaayenge
kuchh le ke jaayenge
kuchh de ke jaayenge
sawere waali gaadii haan sawere waali hoy-hoy
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge

nishaani koyi pyaar ki to chhod jaayenge
kahaani koyi pyaar ki to jod jaayenge
nishaani koyi pyaar ki to chhod jaayenge
kahaani koyi pyaar ki to jod jaayenge
to jod jaayenge haay haay
banenge kisi ke kisi ke ho ke jaayenge
banenge kisi ke kisi ke ho ke jaayenge
kuchh le ke jaayenge
ho kuchh de ke jaayenge
sawere waali gaadi sawere waali
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge
sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge
kuchh le ke jaayenge
kuchh de ke jaayenge
sawere waali gaadii se chale jaayenge
ho sawere waali gaadi se chale jaayenge

Translation

I will depart by the morning train
I will take away something with me
I will leave behind something here

All this joy and frolicking is just temporary
The incessent flow of time keeps reminding us all the time
Guests can neither be held back nor do they wish to stay back

If one has to meet, meet in a friendly manner and talk nicely
So that others may consider themselves privileged to have met you
If I find something then I may lose my heart here

I will leave some token of love for people to remember me
I will leave some tale of love to the folklore
I will become someeone’s, someone will become mine
I will depart by the morning train
I will take away something with me
I will leave behind something here

This was one of the earlier songs I heard in my life…did not know which film it was from….who the actors were…just heard this song being played on the loudspeakers (you know how it is when they have the pandals for functions 🙂 ).

Only recently I googled this song and found out all details.
Have not seen the movie.

Timepass song though….indeed joie de vivre category.

Indeed, same was the case for me also.

And Raja, one of the first songs you herad must have been “titli udi”. I recently unearthed the video of this song too. But I do not want to subject you and others to that cacophony ( but people in those days loved that song).

Indeed it was “titli udi” 🙂
It was pretty popular then – am not sure people will quite appreciate it now.

I still like “wo pari kahan se laaoon” though….it is catchy !
And Manoj Kumar is always fun. 🙂
