Kishore Kumar sang most of his earlier songs under the music direction of S D Burman. But he did sing under other music directors too. But as far as sad/ serious songs were concerned, most such songs of Kishore Kumar tended to be under the music direction of S D Burman and typically picturied on Dev Anand.
But Kishore Kumar’s prowess in singing sad/ serious songs was being acknowledged by other music directors too. And Kishore Kumar was getting chances to sing for himself in movies as well.
Kishore Kumar worked as the hero cum singer in two movies under the music direction of Ravi in those days. And what flattering names they had picked for these movies! The first such movie was called “Dilli ka thug” (1958) and the next one was “Bambai ka chor” (1962).
Ravi, who had used Kishore Kumar’s voice for some great comic songs in ” Dilli ka thug” used Kishore Kumar’s voice again in “Bambai ka chor”. This time the result was a memorable sad/ serious song.
This song finished 31 in Binaca geetmala 1962 final.

Kishore Kumar, Dil ka Thug. He made you laugh and cry with his songs. I love this sweet, sad wistful number as much as I do `Yeh dardbhara afsaaanaa….’
