Legend has it that Krishna always wondered why he was dark skinned and many others viz. Radha was fair. And his mother would try to give him some simplistic explanations meant to satisfy his curious mind.
That was in dwapar yug. But even in this kaliyug, kids have similar curiosity. For instance, if a family has two kids- a boy and a girl, the boy may wonder why he only gets to wear simple plain dresses, and his sister always gets to wear colourful dresses.
There is one friend of mine who gave me the farmaish for this song citing the above reason why he likes this song. I must say it is a very good reason for liking this song. And I must sympathise for his young son. Hopefully he will grant it to his sister that girls have this prerogative of dressing colourfully.
This song from “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” was just another song in the movie, but it soon became a cult bhajan, and is perhaps the most well known song from this movie that was released in 1978.
The lyrics of this song ( and other songs in this movie) was written by veteran lyricist Pt. Narendra Sharma, who is best known for being the creator of Vividh Bharati radio service. His superbly created lyrics were made into a very popular song by Laxmikant Pyarelal. First para is sung by Manna Dey, and then Lata takes over.Lata Mangeshkar sang this song wonderfully well.

Oh I am so glad you have posted this Atul. I absolutely love this song. It brings back lots of memories of summer holidays spent in Patna. My Nana used to make us all sing Bhajans in the morning and this was one of them. We used to even get a prize for singing the whole song! 🙂
