Rona kabhi nahin rona

It was one of those Rajesh Khanna movies that I watched when it was released in 1970s and thoughroughly enjoyed the movie. Those were the days when the era of Hero singing sad songs throughout the movie and getting bashed by the villain ( Pran, typically) was coming to an end. The new age hero of 1970s took it lying down only till the interval and then took to action in the second half. “Apna desh ” was one such movie.
Hero taking on the baddies and seeing them behind the bars- it was a new and exciting development in Bollywood storyline at that time, and I absolutely loved this kind of story line.
This movie had music of R D Burman and songs by Kishore Kumar- absolutely a killer combination those days. Every song of the movie was wonderful. I do not recall anyone walking out of the hall to have a smoke when songs were on in this movie.
Every song in this movie was memorable and continues to remain so. Here is the one song that was a kids special, which was especially popular when elders needed to pacify a crying kid.
Many of the youngsters may not have heard this song because the clip of this song is a bit difficult to find. So here is this song ( on the farmaish of Raja, who is my contemporary in age) which would appeal to kids and elders alike. Kids that age are often closer to their chacha/ mama than their own parents. So Rajesh Khanna, the chacha pacifying a crying kid certainly met with the approval of kids like me who watched this song in the movie.
This reminds me, my kid too has not seen/ heard this song. It is time I exposed her to this song.

A children’s song that I absolutely ADORE is “Ek Thi Ladki” from Gumrah (1963). I can’t find it on Youtube, but it’s a lovely lovely song.
If you can find it I would love to have the lyrics and translation…

Atul, I don’t know what to say….
I am soooooooooooo thankful to you.
I love this song…it brings back memories. I used to sing this for my niece whenever she used to cry. This was about 1980 or so. It was the perfect song to sing…she was about 1…she would look at me quite puzzled…and would stop crying. It worked almost every single time…
I was looking for this song on youtube but could not find it. I don’t know how you managed but thanks, thanks, thanks.
