Door rahkar na karo baat

Posted on: November 3, 2008

The movie is called “Amaanat” and this was a movie starring Manoj Kumar and Sadhana. The voice of Rafi, singing for Manoj Kumar sounds so divine. The music is by Ravi and Sahir has written the lyrics.

The picturisation shows the lead pair in a romantic setting where they find themselves alone in a rainy night, with fire burning nearby to keep them warm. The situation is almost similar to the later year Aradhana situation ( “Roop tera mastana, pyar mera deewana”- situation, as I would say)

The song is an ideal song to be listened to at night, preferably a rainy night, and I think this must have been a favourite song in Vividh Bharati’s Chhaayaageet programme, which was a programme broadcast at 10 PM every night.

Song-Door rahkar na karoi baat (Amaanat) (1975) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics- Sahir Ludhianvi, MD- Ravi

Lyrics

yaad rah jaayegi ye raat, qareeb aa jaao

aaj bas mein nahin jazbaat qareeb aa jaao
aaj bas mein nahin jazbaat qareeb aa jaao

sard jhonkon se bhadakte hain badan mein shole
sard jhonkon se bhadakte hain badan mein shole
jaan le legi ye barsaat, qareeb aa jaao
jaan le legi ye barsaat, qareeb aa jaao

is kadar hamse jhijhakne ki zaroorat kyaa hai
is kadar hamse jhijhakne ki zaroorat kyaa hai
zindagi bhar kaa hai ab saath qareeb aa jaao
zindagi bhar kaa hai ab saath qareeb aa jaao
yaad rah jaayegi ye raat qareeb aa jaao

Thanks, Atul, for putting this one up too.
This is one of my favourite Rafi songs.
Long before I saw the movie and the picturisation, I fell in love with the song.
Rafi’s voice is so divine.
When he says “aaj bas mein nahin jazbaat, kareeb aa jaao” it is really out of this world !!!

I know a lot of people criticize Ravi’s music as being too repetitive. And I daresay a lot of his songs have a very similar tune about them. But to his credit I will say one thing – in his songs, the music is more subtle than in the songs of many other MDs. That allows the singer’s voice to come out more powerfully. (Another MD who used to often have the same thing was Madan Mohan. Listen to “Aap ke pehloo mein aake ro diye” – absolutely divine).

Thanks, Atul.

Every music director is repetitive. But I find that Ravi was perhaps one of the most versatile. He had a long career spanning from 1950s to 1980s. And many huge hits and many songs composed by him have become iconic songs as I had mentioned in my post on Ravi in my other blog.

Atul ji
Please mention the Raag name on which every song is based, that will be a “Sone pe Suhaga” above all the information you provide.
Thank you.
