Here is another superb Rafi song. This song is from a 1966 movie called “Gaban”. Though it is a very well known song, but for some reason its video is not available, and the few clips available show school / college albums with this song playing in the background. Here is this song without such irritants and with the photo of Rafi instead.
We are used to many songs giving vent to one’s anger on ungrateful persons, but it is a different song where one is expressing one’s gratitude towards people who helped one in the past. So this is a song of gratefulness. It certainly makes a welcome change from songs that talk of ingratitude (“Bewafai”,”matlabi” etc).
I have no idea about how this song was picturised, but I guess that this song was picturised on Sunil Dutt. But there is little doubt that its is the voice of Rafi that is the star behind this song. And indeed the lyrics of Hasrat Jaipuri are superb, as is the music of Shankar Jaikishan.
PS-I thanks nahm for pointing me to the video of this elusive song. From the picturisation, it is seen that it is a playful “hostel” song picturised on Sunil Dutt and others.

Many great songs are like that. These songs, which were often an afterthought, often outlive the movie itself in longevity.

Why ‘pathos’ tag for such a happy song ? Here is Rafi on Sunil Dutt.
And it should be tagged as “Hostel” Song.

Very nice Rafi song, Atul.
I saw this movie a few years ago.
The movie is quite watchable in the first half.
Somewhat “hatke” – it is about embezzlement (as you may have guessed from the name).
After half-time it becomes very serious and quite slow actually.
If I remember right, this song is very early in the movie. Just a routine song with Sunil Dutt. No particular association with the story.
