“Basant Bahar” is a movie that was based on the subject of music itself, like “Baiju Baawra” before it. As can be expected, such movies were full of songs. And all these songs have easily become immortal. There are so many such songs in each of these movies hat one is just amazed. And one thinks about it, all these songs were composed more than half a century earlier. This is what is called longevity. And these songs will not get forgotten anytime soon.
Here is one absolutely timeless song. The words of this song viz “sun na saje kya gaaun main” is known to every Bollywood music fan, even though he may not know which movie this song is from. I was one such fan.
It is only when I dug deeper while researching this song that I came to know that it was a song from “Basant Bahar”. Shailendra wrote the lyrics. I am amazed at the sher quality of Shailendra’s lyrics in songs after songs, movies after movies, for nearly two decades. And he used to team up with Shankar Jaikishan, and it is the same in this movie as well.
Though most songs for the hero Bharat Bhooshan were sung by Rafi in this movie, this song was sung by Manna Dey. So it was one of the rare opportunities for Manna Dey to sing for the hero of the movie.
It was not the most popular song of this movie during its time, and this song in fact had missed appearing in the Binaca geetmala final of 1957. But this song has gradualy become more and more popular as time has progressed to a stage where it has become almost an iconic song.
Incidentally, Manna Dey had sung another song for the hero in this movie ( “Nain mile chain kahan” )and that had become the most popular song from this movie at that time.

all time hit songs of basant bahar name the song and it is immortal timeless and popular. nine songs and all r best and sung none other than the highest caliber of the playback singers.
