Meri bheegi bheegi si palkon pe rah gaye

“Anamika” was a critically acclaimed movie. Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri were the main actors in the movie which was a suspense thriller.
Apart from its story line which was different from the usual mainstream Bollywood movies, the movie was also notable for its music.
The most memorable song from this movie was “meri bheegi bheegi si palkon pe rah gaye” sung by Kishore Kumar. This song stood fourth in Binaca geetmala final of 1973 and today it is better known than the songs finishing above it in that programme. Majrooh Sultanpuri’s lyrics and R D Burman’s music stand out in this song as well as in this movie.
The song is a party song picturised in the usual Bollywood tradition, with Sanjeev Kumar singing the song and everyone else standing like a statue. Only the heroine is allowed to move around mostly away from the hero, and for some reason looking guilty. No idea why. I have the VCD of this movie and may be I should find out the reasons.

Song-Meri bheegi bheegi si palkon pe rah gaye ( Anamika) (1973) Singer- Kishore Kumar, Lyrics- Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD- R D Burman
Lyrics
meri bheegi-bheegi si, palkon pe rah gaye
jaise mere sapne bikhar ke
jale man teraa bhi, kisi ke milan ko
anaamikaa, tuu bhi tarse
meri bheegi-bheegi si
meri bheegi-bheegi si, palkon pe rah gaye
jaise mere sapne bikhar ke
jale man teraa bhi, kisi ke milan ko
anaamikaa, tuu bhi tarse
meri bheegi-bheegi si…
tujhe bin jaane, bin pahchaane
maine hriday se lagaayaa
tujhe bin jaane, bin pahchaane
maine hriday se lagaayaa
par mere pyaar ke badle mein toone
mujhko ye din dikhlaayaa
jaise birhaa ki rut maine kaati
tadapke aahen bhar-bhar ke
jale man teraa bhi, kisi ke milan ko
anaamikaa, tuu bhi tarse
meri bheegi-bheegi si…
aag se naataa, naari se rishtaa
kaahe man samajh na paayaa
aag se naataa, naari se rishtaa
kaahe man samajh na paayaa
mujhe kyaa huaa thaa, ek bewafaa se
haay mujhe kyun pyaar aayaa
teri bewafaayi pe, hanse jag saaraa
gali-gali guzre jidhar se
jale man teraa bhi, kisi ke milan ko
anaamikaa, tuu bhi tarse
meri bheegi-bheegi si
meri bheegi-bheegi si, palkon pe rah gaye
jaise mere sapne bikhar ke
jale man teraa bhi, kisi ke milan ko
anaamikaa, tuu bhi tarse
meri bheegi-bheegi si…

Kishore has sung this song with more restraint to suit Sanjeev Kumar and has expressed disappointment, anger/anguish exceptionally well. His use of “Hriday” instead of “Hruday” is interesting.
Thank you for all this work you are putting in. It’s just great.

oh, you definitely should watch this movie: says one who doesn’t watch too many of them!
And despite the stereotyped filming of this one, the lyrics fit in beautifully into the story.
