Ye shaam mastaani, madhosh kiye jaay

These days people go on outing or long drives on holidays. In the past, they use to go on “picnics”. People would go ot away from the crowds and spend a few hours away from the maddening crowds.
This song from “Kati Patang” is a picnic song. People, mostly friends and family members go out on a picturesque location where they ply games, eat out and in general enjoy themselves. Asha Parekh, who is supposed to be a widow, is obviously unable to enjoy herself in the picnic.
Rajesh Khanna the hero is attracted towards her, and when he is asked by her younger sister and her friends to sing a song, he comes up with this song which is obviously addressed towards Asha Parekh.
This was one of the first movies in which R D Burman used Kishore Kumar’s voice for Rajesh Khanna. The songs of this movie became hugely popular and Kishore Kumar became Rajesh Khanna’s playback voice for many years to come.
Song-Ye shaam mastaani, madhosh kiye jaay (Kati Patang) (1970) Singer-Kishore Kumar,Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
he he hmm hmm
ye shaam mastaani, madhosh kiye jaaye
mujhe dor koyi kheenche, teri or liye jaaye
ye shaam mastaani, madhosh kiye jaaye
mujhe dor koyi kheenche, teri or liye jaaye
door rahti hai tu, mere paas aati nahin
hothon pe tere, kabhi pyaas aati nahin
aisaa lage, jaise ke tu, hanske zahar koyi piye jaaye
ye shaam mastaani, madhosh kiye jaaye
mujhe dor koyi kheenche, teri or liye jaaye
baat jab main karoon, mujhe rok deti hai kyun
teri meethi nazar, mujhe tok deti hai kyun
teri hayaa, teri sharam, teri qasam mere honth siye jaaye
ye shaam mastaani, madhosh kiye jaaye
mujhe dor koyi kheenche, teri or liye jaaye
ek roothi huyi, taqdeer jaise koyi
khaamosh aise hai tu, tasweer jaise koyi
teri nazar, banke zubaan, lekin tere paighaam diye jaaye
ye shaam mastaani, madhosh kiye jaaye
mujhe dor koyi kheenche, teri or liye jaaye

A fabulous and romantic song indeed. I just love the songs of aradhana and Kati patang. Rajeshji and Ashaji were superb in the movie. Thank you so much for uploading.

This was one of the songs that had drawn me to Rajesh Khanna and his mannerisms in my younger days, this and his songs in Aradhana, of course! You just took me back a whole lot of years! Thanks!
