Ham pyaar mein jalne waalon ko chain kahaan

Here is a Lata-Madan Mohan classic from a 1958 movie called “Jailor”. Lyricist is Rajinder Krishan and the song was picturised on Geeta Bali who sings this song on a piano.
I have no idea what this movie was all about. From the credits it can be seen that Sohrab Modi, Kamini Kaushal and Abhi Bhattacharya were the other well known names in this movie. As happened with most Madan Mohan movies, this movie too appears to be one that failed to set the box office on fire. But Madan Mohan’s music fortunately tended to survive despite such setbacks.
It is difficult to believe that this song, which sounds so fresh and refreshing was recorded half a century ago. It is difficult to explain what it is about this song that makes it so popular. Perhaps it is the lyrics, the music or the voice. There is certainly some X factor in this song that makes it so popular despite such minimal use of music in this song.
This song is easily one of the most memorable Lata-Madan Mohan songs.

Song-Ham pyaar me jalne waalon ko chain kahaan (Jailor) (1958) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan
Lyrics
ham pyaar mein jalnewaalon ko
chain kahaan, haay, aaraam kahaan
ham pyaar mein jalnewaalon ko
chain kahaan, haay, aaraam kahaan
ham pyaar mein jalnewaalon ko…
preet ki andhiyaari manzil mein, chaaron or siyaahi
preet ki andhiyaari manzil mein, chaaron or siyaahi
aadhi raah mein hi lut jaaye, is manzil kaa raahi
is manzil kaa raahi
kaanton par chalnewaalon ko,
chain kahaan, haay, aaraam kahaan
ham pyaar mein jalnewaalon ko …
bahlaaye jab dil naa bahle, to aise bahlaayen
bahlaaye jab dil naa bahle, to aise bahlaayen
gham hi to hai pyaar ki daulat, ye kahkar samjhaayen
ye kahkar samjhaayen
apnaa man chhalnewaalon ko,
chain kahaan, haay, aaraam kahaan
ham pyaar mein jalnewaalon ko
chain kahaan, haay, aaraam kahaan
ham pyaar mein jalnewaalon ko…

What a pity, the song has been removed…even if the video is not available, at least one should be allowed to listen to the beautiful song!!

The X factor you mentioned is what draws listeners like us to music like this 50 years after it was produced. For some reason, some composers seem to have the X factor in more of their songs.
These pieces could retain the X factor hundreds of years later. As one example, listen to this piece composed 200 years ago; it still sounds fresh no matter if you hear it for the first time or dozens of times:
