Teri nigaahon pe mar mar gaye ham

I have listened to this song for the first time only now. And this song is from a 1964 movie called Shabnam. The music director is Usha Khanna, but the lyricist is an unknown person for me called Jawed Anwar.
This song is sung by Mukesh, and it is quite a racy number, something one does not normally associate with Mukesh. And this is quite a hummable song too. And I am saying this having listened to this song just a few times.
Usha Khanna deserves credit for getting Mukesh to sing a happy and playful song. And the music too is very nice to listen to.
The song is picturised on Mehmood and Vijaylaxmi. Apparently they were the lead pair in this movie. Mehmood playing lead role leads me to conclude that this movie must have been a small budget movie which may not have achieved much at the box office. But the songs appear promising. I am definitely encouraged to look for other songs of this movie.

Song-Teri nigahon pe mar mar gaye hum (Shabnam) (1964) Singer- Mukesh, Lyrics- Jawed Anwar, MD- Usha Khanna
Lyrics
teri nigaahon pe mar-mar gaye ham
baanki adaaon pe mar-mar gaye ham
kyaa karen kyaa karen kyaa karen
teri nigaahon pe mar-mar gaye ham
zulfon mein leke kaali raat chale
saaraa zamaanaa liye saath chale
zulfon mein leke kaali raat chale
saaraa zamaanaa liye saath chale
aise mein jeene kaa mazaa hai sanam
aankhon se teri-meri baat chale
bewafaa ek nigaah dekh le dekh bhi le
teri nigaahon pe mar-mar gaye ham
baanki adaaon pe mar-mar gaye ham
wallah beghar hoon benaam hoon mai
dil ne jo bheja wo jaao salaam hoon main
saaki ki to aisa wo jaam hoon main
teri nigaahon pe mar-mar gaye ham
baanki adaaon pe mar-mar gaye ham
teri adaa kaa to jawaab nahin
meri wafaa kaa bhi hisaab nahin
teri adaa kaa to jawaab nahin
meri wafaa kaa bhi hisaab nahin
soorat tumhaari badi khoob sahi
dil to hamaaraa bhi kharaab nahin
bewafaa ek nigaah dekh le dekh bhi le
teri nigaahon pe mar-mar gaye ham
baanki adaaon pe mar-mar gaye ham
kyaa karen kyaa karen kyaa karen
teri nigaahon pe mar-mar gaye ham
baanki adaaon pe mar-mar gaye ham

Atulji,
You have mentioned that you have never heard of the lyricist, Jawed Anwar. However, Wikipedia has this to say about Shri Jawed Anwar.
“Born in Gwalior, Usha Khanna’s father, Manohar Khanna, was a lyricist and singer, working as Assistant Superintendent in the Water Works Department in the then Gwalior State. When he came to Bombay (now Mumbai) for some work in 1946 he met Jaddanbai who was mother of Hindi film actress Nargis Dutt. On her request he started writing Gazals for Hindi films by the name, Jaaved Anwar .He was getting a monthly salary of Rs. 250 in Gwalior State and Jaddanabi offered him Rs. 800 for 3 gazals which he wrote for Jaddanbai,s Nargis Art Productions film Romeo Juliet .”

The information of Wiki,as usual, is not without a flaw here also……
The facts-
Javed-Anwar were actually two people. Javed was the taKallus of Usha Khanna’s
father who wrote lyrics under the name of Manohar Khanna as well as ML Khanna, and Anwar in this
duo was another lyricist who wrote separately as Rahil Gorakhpuri.

The other songs are just fabulous 🙂 I’ve been listening to more Usha Khanna lately—what a talented lady she is/was. She could sing really well too!
