Tum kitni khoobsurat ho

Posted on: January 17, 2009

There are many a songs that become popular during its time and are then forgotten. The reason why many such songs are forgotten is because the movies featuring such songs are often forgettable.

“Jungle mein mangal” is certainly an eminently forgettable movie. What else can be the fate of a movie where the makers acn only afford Kiran Kumar as the hero ?

But the song is so nice to listen to.

When I got this farmaish from Raja, I wondered what song this could be. When I finally managed to locate the video, and listened to the song, I realised that I had listened to this song before, during its heydays. And now I am getting to listen to this song again after 35 years. And with the added bonus (?) of watching Kiran Kumar as the hero too.

Seriously, if Mithun Chakraborty, Naseeruddin Shah and Amol Palekar could become heroes in Bollywood, then there was no reason why Kiran Kumar should not have become a hero. It is too bad that he did not get proper guidance from his baap. But what can his baap do, seeing that it was Jeevan, who played a cunning villain in Bollywood movies his entire life.

The picturisation also shows Reena Roy, Pran and a lady that I think is Padma Khanna ( but I could be wrong).

What a great song sung by Kishore Kumar and how unfortunate that this song ha been forgotten by now. It is a gem, really.

Song-Tum kitni khoobsoorat ho (Jungle mein mangal) (1972) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Neeraj, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

hmmm
lala
tum kitni khoobsoorat ho
ye mere dil se poochho
in dhadkanon se poochho tum
kyon dil hai tumpe deewaanaa
tum kitni khoobsoorat ho
ye mere dil se poochho
in dhadkanon se poochho tum
kyon dil hai tumpe deewaanaa

sharmaa rahi ho jaanaa
bal khaa rahi ho jaanaa
tum maano yaa naa maano
apnaa tumhi ko maanaa
sharmaa rahi ho jaanaa
bal khaa rahi ho jaanaa
tum maano yaa naa maano
apnaa tumhi ko maanaa
tum kitni khoobsoorat ho
ye mere dil se poochho
in dhadkanon se poochho tum
kyon dil hai tumpe deewaanaa

na bahaar maangta hoon
na karaar maangta hoon
main to zindagi ke badle
tera pyaar maangta hoon
na bahaar maangta hoon
na karaar maangta hoon
main to zindagi ke badle
tera pyaar maangta hoon
tum kitni khoobsoorat ho
ye mere dil se poochho
in dhadkanon se poochho tum
kyon dil hai tumpe deewaanaa
kyon dil hai tumpe deewaanaa
kyon dil hai tumpe deewaanaa

Thanks for posting this, Atul.
Nice song, isn’t it ?
Actually the movie also was not bad at all – well, I liked it a lot when I saw it all those years ago (but then, my taste is weird. 😉 ).
It is about college students who go out into the jungle.

The “heroine” who Pran is interested in is Sonia Sahani. I think she is the “governess” of the girl students.

Maybe Raj Kapoor was impressed by this pairing and picked them for Bobby. 🙂

Shanker of Shanker-Jaikishen duo was running bad luck, since his many gems did not get proper attention. Even a film like Chorni featuring big artistes of that time Jitendra and Neetu Singh got thin response from viewers and thus tilting music of Shanker Jaikishen went to memory dump. The bad luck severely affected Shanker’s reputation that music of Eent Ka Jawab Patthar, Door Naheen Manzil, Rivaaz, Inteqam ki Aag, Waqt Ka Sikander(uncomplete film) and Love in Bombay(shelved/uncomplete) could not fetch SJ the lost glory. IT IS VERY SAD STATE.

I love this movie. When I first saw it in Bangalore in the 70s, I liked it so much, I went to see it again. All the songs of the film were very catchy. And hey! Kiran Kumar was cute!

Correction required Atul ji

In our blog, 2 songs of film Jungle mein mangal(1972) have been discussed. For 2 songs of the movie, the lyricist`s name was wrongly credited to “GULASHAN BAWRA”,
Lyricist`s name credit for the movie was jointly given to
“HASRAT JAIPURI & NEERAJ” pair-for all the songs of the movie.

Please correct this one.

You are absolutely correct Sir. The time was not in favour of Shanker. Not only close ones like Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor etc ditched him, but the time itself. Otherwise his compositions in Garam Khoon, Resham Ki Dori, Dhoop Chhaon, Dur Naheen Manzil, Do Jhoot, Chorni, Dil Daulat Duniya, Eent Ka Jawab Patthar, were classy.

I think Atul ji is referring to Sonia Sahni, Padma Khanna is not there in the picturisation of the song
