“Laal Bangla” was a C grade movie with unknown names playing lead roles in it.
Not much was heard about these leading men after this movie. In fact not much was heard about this movie either, after it was released in 1966.
The only thing that is still remembered from this movie is its music which was composed by Usha Khanna.
If one has to identify one song that is remembered the most out of all its songs, then that song has to be this memorable “Chand ko kya maloom chaahta hai use koyi chakor” sung by Mukesh.
The song is written by Indeewar. Prima facie, the lyrics do not appear much more than nice poetry. And indeed, if this was used in Kavi sammelans, this poetry would have received some praise from knowledgeable listeners.
The words were set to tune by Usha Khanna and sung by Mukesh, and presto, the lyrics have taken wings and it has taken the form of such a wonderful song. This song is a very good example of the X factor that Mukesh possessed.
We have heard enough Mukesh songs to know that Mukesh possessed a Midas touch. Whatever song he sang, tended to become classics.
Most of such songs have been sad songs. But not this one. This is a love song, where words like “Chand” and “Chakor” have been used to symbolise the loved and the lover respectively.
The picturisation shows that it is a “Tonga” song. Our leading man is driving a tonga, with the leading lady seated beside him. The leading man, who looks so much like Madan Puri ( but is someone called Jugal Kishore, a one movie wonder), is acting rather like Shammi Kapoor in the sense that he makes the most of this “Tonga” ride opportunity to sing a love song too singing about “Chand” and “chakor”.
The music is very much a racy kind of music as one would expect in a tonga song. In fact, I am reminded of another tonga song from the previous decade viz “piya piya piya” from “Baap re baap”, which was a song in a lighter vein. The music of this song was composed by O P Nayyar. The sound of hoofs of the horse beating down rhythmically sounds somewhat similar in both the tunes.

The chukar Indian red-legged partridge, belongs to the pheasant family.
The bird is known to bewitch by the moon and for its constant gaze at moon.

Some of the interpretations of the koel call include;
in Hindi “peea kahan”(where’s my love), in Bengali “chokh gelo” (my eyes are gone), in Marathi “paos ala” (the rains are coming).
The Hawk-Cuckoo(=Asian koel) and peacock. Both have traditional relationship with dark rain cloud. If one welcomes it with his loud calls,
the other begs of it, equally vociferously, a few drops of water.
PLEASE NOTE: here Badli means “rain cloud.”)
Myth has the peacock representing fidelity, as it dies of grief, or remains single, if it loses its mate.

The Actor: he was popular as Character Artist in Hindi cinema, RAJAN HAKSAR. He belonged to a Kashmir Pandit family.
Husband of actress Manorama (later divorced). They have one daughter, she is actress Rita Haksar.
The Lady: She is South Indian cinema Actress Jayanthi (original name Kamalakumari)
