“Professor” has to be one of the most memorable musical blockbuster movie featuring Shammi Kapoor. But then the same can be said about any Shammi Kapoor movie.
In most of these movies, Rafi would sing for Shammi. that is the case here too. In all these movies, Shankar Jaikishan would be the music directors. That is the case here too. When it came to the lyricist, it would be either Hasrt Jaipuri or Shailendra. Here, it is shailendra who has written this song.
The picturisation is quite realistic and the lyrics express the feelings of the boy and girl so very well. In fact, this is one song one has little difficulty identifying with.
This is a nice song with nice picturisation. It is yet another Shammi-Rafi classic that has become immortal.

Song-Khuli palak me jhootha gussa band palak me pyaar (Professor) (1962) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shailendra,MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
zaraa thahro zaraa thahro
sadaa mere dil ki zaraa sunte jaao
khuli palak mein jhoothaa gussaa band palak mein pyaar
jeenaa bhi mushkil marnaa bhi mushkil
aankhon mein ikraar ki jhalki hothon pe inkaar
jeenaa bhi mushkil hoy marnaa bhi mushkil
jis din se dekhaa tumko tum lage mujhe apne se
aur aake rahe aankhon mein haay
aur aake rahe aankhon mein ik manchaahe sapne se
samajh naa aaye kyaa jeetaa main aur gayaa kyaa haar
jeenaa bhi mushkil marnaa bhi mushkil
khuli palak mein jhoothaa gussaa band palak mein pyaar
jeenaa bhi mushkil hoy marnaa bhi mushkil
tum pyaar chhupaake haare main pyaar jataake haaraa
ab to saari duniyaa pe hoy
ab to saari duniyaa pe zaahir hai haal hamaaraa
pahunch ke is manzil pe lautnaa ab to hai dushwaar
jeenaa bhi mushkil marnaa bhi mushkil
khuli palak mein jhoothaa gussaa band palak mein pyaar
jeenaa bhi mushkil hoy marnaa bhi mushkil
ise meri baat na samjho kya banta hai baat banaake
kuch kahna tha mera dil ka hoy
kuch kahna tha mera dil ka jaata hoon wahi dohraake
na ho yakeen to padh kar dekho aankhon me ik baar
jeenaa bhi mushkil marnaa bhi mushkil
khuli palak mein jhoothaa gussaa band palak mein pyaar
jeenaa bhi mushkil marnaa bhi mushkil
aankhon mein ikraar ki jhalki hothon pe inkaar
jeenaa bhi mushkil hoy marnaa bhi mushkil
jeenaa bhi mushkil marnaa bhi mushkil

Hold on a bit, hold on a bit
Just listen to the call from my heart before you go
With one eye open you feign anger, with the other closed you show love
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
There is a glimpse of acceptance in your eyes, but denial on your lips
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
From the day I have seen you, you have felt like my own
And you have resided in my eyes
And you have resided in my eyes, as a much-loved dream
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
I wonder what I have won and what I have lost
There is a glimpse of acceptance in your eyes, but denial on your lips
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
You have tried to hide your love – and failed
I have tried to show my love – and failed
By now the whole world knows about our condition
Now, having come this far, there is no point in going back
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
I wonder what I have won and what I have lost
There is a glimpse of acceptance in your eyes, but denial on your lips
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
Don’t think this is due to me, what is achieved by making a big fuss
My heart just wanted to tell you something
My heart just wanted to tell you something, and having said it, I will leave
If you don’t believe me, just read it in my eyes
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
I wonder what I have won and what I have lost
There is a glimpse of acceptance in your eyes, but denial on your lips
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
With one eye open you feign anger, with the other closed you show love
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die
For me it is difficult to live, it is difficult to die

what a delightful song to listen to and watch! Best of Shammi, best of music duo, best of lyrics, best of Rafi Saheb. I simply adore this song.
