“Tasveer”(1966) was produced and directed by JBH Wadia for Wadia Movietone, Bombay. This movie had Kalpana and Feroz Khan in lead roles. It also had Helen, Sajjan, Nazir Husain, Lalita pawar, Sabina, Raj Mehra, Rajender Nath, Indira Bansal, Arti, Dalpat, Bismilla, Gaikwad, Badshah, Darshan, Kishan Kumar, Prem and Dog named Rover(Trainer Kamal) etc in it.

“Tasveer”(1966) had eight songs in it. Three songs have been covered in the past.

Here is the fourth song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Suman Kalyanpur. D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by C Ramchandra.

The song is picturised as a joyous song on Feroz Khan and Kalpana after Nazir Hussain (playing ladki ka baap) agrees to their wedding after the loyal dog tiger certifies that Feroz Khan is a genuine person. I have not watched the movie, but I am sure the dog is the most good looking creature in the movie as far as I am concerned. 🙂

Lyrics of the song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Blog Day : 3655 Post No. : 14515

Regulars of this blog know that we in this blog have had a few events that were eagerly anticipated and looked forward to. The event of the blog clocking 10000th is still fresh in everyone’s mind.

10000 is a round figure but we subsequently managed to create anticipation for some unusual numbered posts as well- what we called honky tonk numbers. Post number 11111 in the blog was a very special number. People began to make guesses about the song that was likely to become song post number 11111 in the blog. There were tell tale signals and clues that regulars could work on. By the time the target approached closer, regulars, after some false leads began to close in on the correct song. By the time the event arrived, people had already guessed (correctly) about the song that was going to be song post number 11111 in the blog.

That song was a very special song. It had the voices of four major singers of HFM, namely Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh and Lata. And that song was the only occasion when these four singers had come together to sing a movie song.

How did our regulars guess that this song was going to be song number 11111 ? They noticed that the number of songs by these singers in the blog were approaching their 90s. By the time the blog reached song number 11104, all the four singers were on their respective nervous 99s. So once people realised this fact so they began to look for songs that contained all the four voices . And soon enough they zeroed in on the song of “Amar Akbar Anthony”(1977) namely Hamko tumse ho gaya hai pyaar kya karen (Amar Akbar Anthony) .

That was in 2015. A similar exercise has been undertaken in 2018 as well, but this time secrecy has been maintained so well that no regulars have apparently got any wind of it. Four major singers are once again approaching their respective 99s but no regulars seem to have noticed it. 🙂

Even if they somehow noticed it, and guess that a song containing all these four voices was to be covered, would they have guessed the song this time ? Difficult to say.

While on my mission of YIPPying movies on the blog, I had posted the seventh song (out of eight) of “Pyaar Kiye Ja”(1966) in december 2017. Then I decided against posting the final song and YIPPYing the movie, even though the song was readily available. Reason ? I discovered that this song was a SPECIAL song. It was sung by four major HFM singers, viz. Lata, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle. So, it occured to me that I should try something along the lines of the “Amar Akbar Anthony”(1977) song. But it was easier said than done. All these four artists were far far away from their respective centuries. Moreover, posting of songs in the blog nowadays is not as prolific as it used to be during 2011 to 2014. So I decided to be patient. So it is after patiently posting relevant songs that all the four singers finally reached their 99s.

My plan was to coincide the posting of this song with the date of 19 july 2018 when the blog would have turned TEN years old. But I was unable to stick to this target for various reasons.

Now, two days later, things have fallen in place. All the four singers are in their respective 99s.

So here is this special song from “Pyaar Kiye Jaa”(1966). The movie had eight songs in it. Details of the seven songs that were covered in the past is as follows:-

Song Title Post Date
Dil hamne de diyaa  30 July 2009
O meri mainaa tu maan le meraa kahnaa  5 Sept 2009
Phool ban jaaungaa shart ye hai magar  9 Jan 2012
Kisne pukaara mujhe main aa gayee  5 may 2012
Din jawaani ke chaar yaar  1 apr 2015
Kehne ki nahin baat magar ab zor se kehna hai 24 Dec 2016
Gore haathhon par na zulm karo 6 Dec 2017

With this song, the song tally of the singers of this song stands as following:-

Singer Number of songs in the blog
 Lata  3400
 Asha Bhonsle  2500
 Kishore Kumar  1100
 Manna Dey  500

The movie “Pyaar Kiye Jaa”(1966) was produced and directed by C V Sridhar. The movie, a romantic comedy was a remake of his own Tamil comedy movie “Kadhalikka Neramillai”(1964). “Pyaar Kiye Jaa”(1966) had Shashi Kapoor, Rajshree (south), Kishore Kumar, Kalpana, Mehmood, Om Prakash, Mumtaz, Chaman Puri etc in it. Mehmood and Om Prakash, playing son and father, were both nominated for the Filmfare award for the best comedian of the year and it was Mehmood who finally got the award.

“Pyaar Kiye Jaa”(1966) was a moderate hit in its time, unlike the original Tamil version. Nevertheless the maker went on to remake this movie in Telugu and Kannada as well. With time, “Pyaar Kiye Jaa”(1966) has made its mark as among the better comedy movies made in Hindi.

The song, which has four by now legendary singers lending their voices iin it is picturised on Shashi Kapoor (lip syncing in Manna Dey’s voice), Rajshree (south)-singing in Lata’s voice, Kishore Kumar (singing for himself) and Kalpana (singing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice). I find it difficult to differentiate between the two ladies, that is how similar they look to my eyes which are untrained to identify HF actresses of yore. 🙂

The song is penned by Rajinder Krishan, the favourite lyricist of South Indian film makers remaking their movie into Hindi. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Is this song the only occasion when these four singers came together in a HF song ? I have no idea. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter. In any case, this song sees all these four legendary singers complete their individual centuries in the blog in one fell swoop, as they used to say in old American novels. 🙂

It may look that easy, but of course it was not so. Careful and patient planning for nearly seven months was involved. As the singers count inched towards their centuries, I realised that Asha Bhonsle could reach her century upsetting the plas if we were not careful. So I reminded Sudhir Ji not to post any more Asha Bhonsle songs till I was done with this song. 🙂

Finally this song gets covered in the blog. With this the movie gets YIPPEED. I do not think we have seen so much elaborate planning to cover just one song. The last such occasion was ofcourse the song post number 11111 in the blog viz the song Hamko tumse ho gaya hai pyaar kya karen (Amar Akbar Anthony) .

Feroze Khan – a name that forever spells flamboyance and style. Almost sounding like the Kingdom of the Pathaan. A popular and likeable persona who had to face near disapproval as a leading man, till quite many years into his career. And that too, when he decided to take on the industry on his own terms, and set up his own production house, delivering one hit film after another.

Remembering Feroze Khan on his 78th anniversary of birth today (25th September).

Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 33
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

wo jab yaad aaye
bahut yaad aaye

yes, bahut yaad aaye. . .  that voice – the magic, the magnetism, the feeling of surreal contentment that descends into the being, and ensconces it with a joyous delight. It is a voice, that now lives only in our memories, or in the ethereal sound waves. The memories are such, they will never be detached till the breaths last. And the sound – they say in our culture that sound is forever; it lives in the space for all times to come.  And so will this voice. This voice – of Rafi Sb. This voice that went to sleep 36 years ago, today. 36 years seem to be a long time, a third of a human life already. But it seems just like, well, recently. And the affinity and the magic of this voice has only deepened with time.

Remembering Rafi Sb today, with all humility and respect and love.

It has been raining fairly much all day yesterday. It was raining when I woke up today morning. Seemed like a good pleasant day starting. The weather in Delhi had been humid and windless for past two three days. Yesterday was a welcome break and today is a day with brightness that comes after rain. With nothing particular for reference, the mind had been humming the lines since I woke up.
