Ye kisne geet chheda
Posted on: February 4, 2009
The movie “meri soorat teri aankhen” (1963) was full of some very nice songs. I have already posted two outstanding semi classical songs from this movie- sung by Rafi and Manna Dey respectively.
Here is a nice duet, sung by two other singers, viz Mukesh and Suman Kalyanpur. Shailendra is the lyricist whereas S D Burman composed the music.
The song is picturised on Pradeep Kumar and Asha Parekh. With the benefit of hindsight, one can say that the duo are mismatched, with Pradeep Kumar far too senior to Asha Parekh. But then we in Bollywood are used to it.
The outdoor location where the song is picturised appear really nice and picturesque to me. I wonder what was that location.

Song-Ye kisne geet chheda (Meri Soorat Teri Aankhen) (1963) Singers-Mukesh, Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-S D Burman
Lyrics
ye kis ne geet chhedaa ye kis ne geet chhedaa
dil meraa naache thirak thirak kis ne geet chhedaa
ye kis ki zulf bikhri ye kis ki zulf bikhri
jag saaraa gayaa mahak mahak kis ki zulf bikhri
chori chori haule haule thandi thandi hawaa aaye
kaliyon ke mukh choome bagiyaa ko sulgaaye
daali daali jaaye lachak lachak kis ki zulf bikhri
ye kis ne geet chhedaa …
tum ne hi kiyaa tonaa tumne jaadoo pheraa
anjaani dagri pe chalaa dekho man meraa
matwaalaa gayaa bahak bahak, kis ne geet chhedaa
ye kis ki zulf bikhri …
ek baazi main ne jeeti ek baazi dil haaraa
mere saajan tere kaaran main ne chhodaa jag saaraa
sang tere chali runak jhunak kis ne geet chhedaa
ye kis ki zulf bikhri jag saaraa gayaa mahak mahak
kis ne geet chhedaa dil meraa naache thirak thirak
kis ne geet chhedaa ye kis ne geet chhedaa ye kis ne geet chhedaa

I don’t recollect any other duet sung by the Mukesh Suman duo . Mukeshji is involved with Lataji in most of the songs while Sumanji is involved with Rafi Sahib in most of the duets . Will anyone of the knowlegable reader quote other songs sung by this Mukesh Suman duo ?

This was a good movie and had really interesting songs like this lovely, quiet duet. Mukesh and Suman K go well together!
Also liked Asha Parekh’s looks in this film, she looks nice and chirpy! I am not too great a fan otherwise.
