Ye teri saadgi ye tera baankpan

“Shabnam” (1964) was a movie in while Mehmood played the hero. Many comediens of those days aspired to be heroes in B grade movies. But none of them suceeded.
The perks of being a hero those days was that he could well get to sing in the voice of Rafi. And in this movie, Rafi sang for Mehmood.
And what songs he sang ! Here is the song “Ye teri saadgi ye tera baankpan”. This song righaway sounds like a timeless classic.
Usha Khanna is the music director. The lyricist is someone called Jawed Anwar.

Lyrics
Ye teri saadgi ye tera baankpan
Ye teri saadgi ye tera baankpan
jaane bahaar jaane chaman
jaane bahaar jaane chaman
haay tauba shikan
tauba shikan
tauba shikan
chaal me shokiyaan
ya nasheeli bijliyaan
chaal me shokiyaan
ya nasheeli bijliyaan
har taraf ye shor hai gir padega aasmaan
par teri khaamoshi
allama
allama
Ye teri saadgi ye tera baankpan
jaane bahaar jaane chaman
haay tauba shikan
tauba shikan
tauba shikan
yoon khafa na hoyiye
surkh gaalon ki qasam
yoon khafa na hoyiye
surkh gaalon ki qasam
pyaar hoga aur doona
aur bhi tadpenge ham
ye sharam ye haya
marhaba
marhaba
Ye teri saadgi ye tera baankpan
jaane bahaar jaane chaman
haay tauba shikan
tauba shikan
tauba shikan
tirchi nazron se na dekho
aashique dilgeer ko
tirchi nazron se na dekho
aashique dilgeer ko
kaise teerandaaz ho
seedha to kar lo teer ko
ye gaya dil mera
alwidaa
alwidaa
Ye teri saadgi ye tera baankpan
Ye teri saadgi ye tera baankpan
jaane bahaar jaane chaman
jaane bahaar jaane chaman
haay tauba shikan
tauba shikan
tauba shikan

Atul sahab,
I have only one query and one regret, which arises from the depths of my heart.
Why are these beautiful songs wasted in B and C grade movies on Z grade heroes and heroines?
Time and again we have seen that fantastic songs by Usha Khanna, Chitragupt, C. Arjun et. al have been consigned to the dust bins of history because of the abject failure of the movies in which these songs appeared.
Isn’t this a criminal waste of such lovely music? My regret consumes me like fire – as Thomas Hardy would have said.

When I heard the song the first time I could not ascertain that it is picturised on Mehmood , I thought it was picturised on Dharmendra or Rajendra Kumar . Kudos to Rafisaheb , Usha Khanna and her fathed .
