This song stands out among the songs of 1970 because of its “shudddh” Hindi words. Words like “Hriday” for “dil” really won my “hriday” over when I first heard this song.
This song is written by Indeewar who used to team up with Kalyanji Anandji a lot those days, and they in turn used to work with Manoj Kumar’s movies.
This song is from “Purab aur Paschhim”, which was a simplistic “I am right, you are wrong” kind of movie which stated that India values are good and western values are bad.
The songs from this movie were quite nice as can be expected when music directors of the calibre of Kalyanji Anandji compose music.

As you said, the lyrics of this song are so good one can listen to it over and over again, and love it each time. However, I feel that the producers made all NRIs look pretty bad, as compared to the Indians in that movie, and that was what I expected when I came here. To my surprise, I found that all my friends were still being Indian, practicing Indian culture and values even more than what was being done in India.
Mukesh has done a great job in this song, as always.
