Here is a K L Saigal song from the 1938 movie called “Street Singer”. It is not the most popular song from this movie, but still this song is a nice song to listen to.
Aarzoo Lucknowi wrote the lyrics and R C Boral composed the music for this song.
Song-Jeewan been madhur na baaje(Street Singer) (1938) Singer-K L Saigal, Lyrics-Aarzo Lucknowi, MD-R C Boral
Lyrics
jeewan been madhur na baaje
jhoothe pad gaye taar
bigde thaath se kaam bane kyaa
megh baje na malhaar
bigde thaath se kaam bane kyaa
megh baje na malhaar
pancham chhedo madhyam bole
kharaj bane gandhaar
pancham chhedo madhyam bole
kharaj bane gandhaar
been ke jhoothe pad gaye taar
jeewan been madhur na baaje
jhoothe pad gaye taar
been ke jhoothe pad gaye taar
in taaro ko kholo in tarbho ko phenko phenko
uttam taar nayi tarbhe ho, tab ho nayaa shringaar
is tarbhe se jo sur bole goonj uthe sansaar
been ke jhoothe pad gaye taar
jeewan been madhur na baaje jhoothe pad gaye taar
been ke jhoothe pad gaye taar
bajne ko hai goonj nagaadaa
honaa hai sabse chhutkaaraa
bajne ko hai goonj nagaadaa
honaa hai sabse chhutkaaraa
apnaa jo hai use samajh lo
woh bhi nahin hamaaraa
apnaa jo hai use samajh lo
woh bhi nahin hamaaraa

Dear sir, such an amazing blog for hindi songs. So much grateful to you. There was another song in this film….the lyrics goes like this…”ke nayi geet nayi saaj nayi kaj nai”. I am unable to find this song in internet. Can you please tell me am I correct or not about the song lyrics?

Lovely song!!
A small correction- ‘Bigre kaath’ should be ‘bigre thaat’ – Raag comes from ‘thaat’ in Hindustani music.
