Aankhon mein qayaamat ke kaajal

O P Nayyar, a headstrong music director who ruled the roost for much of 1950s tended to alienate people even close to him. By the time he was creating the music of “Kismat”, he was not on speaking tems with Rafi and so he used the voice of Mahendra Kapoor in the songs of “Kismat”. Mahendra Kapoor was required to sing Rafi style, and he did a competent job of it.
Here is this lovely song “aankhon me qayaamat ke baadal” from “Kismat” (1968). It was writen by S H Bihari. S H Bihari was one friend of O P Nayyar who did not get alienated from O P Nayyar till the last.
Incidentally, Rafi was back singing for O P Nayyar in his 1970s movie viz “Heera Moti”.But that is another story.
This song was picturisd on Vishwajeet and Babita. Here Vishwajeet plays a Shammi Kapoor kind of role. People may be surprised to know ( I was certainly surprised) that this movie is a Manmohan Desai movie. That means it must have entertainment galore. There is no doubt that the songs of this movie aare popular like it is in all Manmohan Desai movies.

I first saw this movie in the 1970s – it was a huge hit of the late 60s.
Loved this song – in fact, all the songs of the movie are worth listening to. I still remember each one of them (including “one, two, three..”).
Come to think of it, the movie was a typical Manmohan Desai movie. Full of co-incidences. At that time of course I did not know what a typical MD movie was like. Saw it again a few years ago, so it is fresh in my mind.
