Manoj Kumar was a movie maker who would make movies with simplistic messages telling India was good, west was bad ( Purab aur paschim), Villagers were good, city folks were bad ( Upkaar ) etc. In this connection, here is this movie “Yaadgaar” (1970) where Manoj Kumar continues to shove his ideals down the throats of public.
This song ” iktara bole” has two versions, and in both versions, people who do not go to temple but to clubs, and people who indulge in fashion, men who are thin and weak etc are taken to task rather harshly.
It was a song that would strike a chord with gullible public, and I as a kid was certainly gullible those days and liked this song.
This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and picturised on Manoj Kumar and his devotees, all wearing saffron clothes. The song was written by Verma Malik and music direction was by Kalyanji Anandji.

Indeed part I is over 8 minutes long and part II is “only” 5 minutes long. Only when I got the lyrics right did I realise what a long song it is. If it took me so much time to type the lyrics down, then just imagine how it must be like writing this song in the first place.
I feel that most songs like this are a labour of love on the part of their lyricists. Indeewar certtainly wrote this song as a labour of love.

I want to make one submission here. I think The song was written by Varma Malick not Indeevar. Because I still remeber an interview of Varma Malick with Ameen Sayani wherein he told about this song.

Well, one source attributed it to Indeewar. But these sources can be unreliable. I have now changed it to Verma Malik.

“Ek ne kahi duje ne mani, Nanak kahe dono gyani”. As was the case with Shyamji Ghanshyamji, a solo music director with two names here also Varma Malick has two Surnames being a single lyric writer.
Ok to all the viewers I pose a question. Who did the Auoon Unhoon Ahoon in the above song 1.Mahendra Kapoor, 2.Kalyanji, 3.Anandji or none of them.

After learning the sad demise (on 19.03.09) of Sh. Varma Malick it is my utmost duty to tell all the readers of this blog that it was VARMA MALICK who did AHOON UHOON AHOON. It was an interview with Sh. Ameen Sayani, in which, Sh. Varma Malick himself did the act again. He also told about how he got the name VARMA MALICK, which has gone out of memory. It is already more than three years are over but I feel as I have heard his voice, on FM radio, a few days back. May the God rest him in heaven!

Namaskar Atulji, this song has one more stanza a total 10 stanzas song. I want to submit this stanza for more than three years which I had seen in the film during my childhood but unable to write lyrics as not available on YT but thanks to “Tranquil Wisdom” for upload full song having additional stanza which appers as part III during climax.

True there is a lot of preaching but it is fun in its own way.
And of course, there is Nutan in the song so nothing else really matters, does it ? 😉
That must have been one hell of a job to get the lyrics of that song written out. Long song, two versions. I really appreciate your commitment, Atul. Labour of love, as you say.
