Khushi ki wo raat aa gayi

Posted on: April 16, 2009

I have not posted a Mukesh song for quite a while. Here is a Mukesh song from “Dharti Kahe Pukaar ke” (1969).

The song talks about “khushi” (happiness), but it is in reality a sad song. From what I can observe, Jeetendra and Nanda are in love but Nanda is getting married to someone else ( Sanjeev Kumar). So Jeetendra sings this song on this “happy” occassion with a heavy and bleeding heart.

As I have mentioned many times in the past, there was just no competition to Mukesh when it came to singing “dard bhare gaane”. And he proves that in this song. The pain, helplessness and the poignancy of the situation just oozes out from the voice of Mukesh in this song.

Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist and Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music. It was picturised on Jeetendra, Nanda, Sanjeev Kumar, Durga Khote etc.

Song-Khushi ki wo raat aa gayi (Dharti Kahe Pukaar ke) (1969) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics- Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

O
Khushi ki wo raat aa gayi koyi geet jagne do
gaao re jhoom-jhoom
gaao re jhoom-jhoom
Khushi ki wo raat aa gayi koyi geet jagne do
gaao re jhoom-jhoom

aaj hansoon main itnaa ke meri aankh lage rone
aaj hansoon main itnaa ke meri aankh lage rone
aaj main itnaa gaaun ke man mein dard lage hone
o maje mein sawere talaq yahi gat ko bajne do
naacho re jhoom-jhoom
khushi ki wo raat aa gayi koyi geet jagne do
gaao re jhoom-jhoom

dhool hoon main wo pawan basanti kyun meraa sang dhare
dhool hoon main wo pawan basanti kyun meraa sang dhare
meri nahin to aur kisi ki paiyaa mein rang bhare
o du nainon mein aansoo liye dulhaniyaa ko sajne do
naacho re jhoom-jhoom
khushi ki wo raat aa gayi koyi geet jagne do
gaao re jhoom-jhoom
kahin koyi kaantaa lage je pag mein to lagane do
naacho re jhoom-jhoom
gaao re jhoom-jhoom
naacho re jhoom-jhoom

One of my all-time favorite Mukesh songs.
The lyrics, the composition, and singing by Mukesh ji makes this one an unforgettable song.
I like this one from Mukesh ji very much. His voice and singing of this particular song stir ones heart.
Surprised that I am the first to visit it here on the blog.
