Nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon

“Johny Mera Naam” (1970) was perhaps the last time a Dev Anand movie turned out to be very successful at box office, though “Des Pardes” (1978) was also successful.
“Johny Mera Naam” has a young Hema Malini pitted against an ageing Dev Anand, and in this movie he plays younger brother of Pran ( though Pran is younger in real life). In a future movie, Pran in fact played father of Dev Anand, I am reliably informed.;)
“Johny Mera naam” had many ingredients for success, viz shooting in exotic locations of Nepal, Kalyanji Anandji’s music, Hema Malini’s looks and (ahem) Dev Saab’s charisma.
Just about every song from this movie went on to become very popular. I have already posted a few songs from this movie.
Here is a song picturised on Dev Saab where Dev saab shares the secret of his charisma that enables him to sweep pretty young lasses like Hema. Too bad Dev Saab did not have a similar secret for success at the box office in his subsequent movies. Of course, he could do no wrong in this movie, seeing how Hema Malini is seen blushing at every given opportunity in this song.
Kishore Kumar is at his singing best and Kalyanji Anandji’s music continues to enthrall me like it did all those decades ago.

Song-Nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon (Johny Mera Naam)(1970) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics
nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon
nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon
arre main wo parwaana hoon patthar ko mom kar doon
nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon
phir aap kyaa hain haan
aakhir to aap phool hain faulaad nahin hai
aji bulbul hain kisi baag ke sayyad nahin hain
Bulbul ke tadapne se sayyad pighalta hai
Bulbul ke tadapne se sayyad pighalta hai
aahon me asar ho to faulaad pighalta hai
faulaad ke bhi dil me ulfat ki aag bhar doon
arre main wo parwaana hoon patthar ko mom kar doon
nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon
sharmo haya ka parda dushwaar nahin hain
aji halka sa ek parda hai deewaar nahin hai
aanchal ki ye deewaar to deewaar nahin hai
aanchal ki ye deewaar to deewaar nahin hai
phir aapke bhi dil me inkaar nahin hai
inkaar jin labon me ikraar unme bhar doon
arre main wo parwaana hoon patthar ko mom kar doon
nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon
ham wo hain zindagi me kabhi saath na chhodenge
thaamenge agar haath to pir haath na chhodenge
ham haath na chhodenge toofaan se kinaaron tak
ham haath na chhodenge toofaan se kinaaron tak
ham saath na chhodenge dharti se sitaaron tak
chahat ke sitaaron se dharti ki maang bhar doon
arre main wo parwaana hoon patthar ko mom kar doon
nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon
arre main wo parwaana hoon patthar ko mom kar doon
nafrat karne waalon ke seene me pyaar bhar doon

Apart from the music or the singing what I liked more about the songs of this film was the special picturisation of these songs, a characteristic essence of Vijay Anand’s style. The one shot filming of Pal bhar ke liye is wonderful, Nalanda university ruins in the background of Oh mere raja and the highly seductive Husn ke lakhon rang are unforgettable………..

Oh, what a superhit movie this was !!!
It had all the ingredients for a hit movie of that time.
Encouraged by this success, Dev-Hema were paired in Joshila. It did not do well. They were paired in a few other movies (like Amir Garib). Also flopped. Only Shareef Badmash did OK.
I like the songs in Johny Mera Naam. Catchy songs, esp the Kishore ones. Including this one.
