“Johny Mera Naam” where Hema Malini had worked opposite Dev Saab was a big success. Encouraged by that, several movies were planned with the two.
Alas ! None of these movies became half as successful as “Johny Mera Naam”. In fact, most of them are not even known today. “Shareef Badmaash” was one such movie.
The movie was forgotten, and its songs also suffered. But the songs, unlike the movie are worth listening to, and they were popular during their times.
Here is a song from this movie. This is a duet sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. It was written by Anand Bakshi and the music director was R D Burman.

I just love this song. Actually, I also love Dev-Hema as a pair.
This is from the R DBurman phase when he made gems like ‘ishq Ishq Ishq’, ‘Heera Panna’, etc. Those songs have a different ring to them.
I find this duet very sweet, though Kishoreda sings only one line in the song ‘Hum phir baat badal denge. aaj nahin dil kal denge ,Bhai aiai bhi kya jaldi hai’.This line repeats throughout the song .Lovely.
Thanks for the post. Brought the song alive for me again. Will probably be humming this the rest of the day now!

Heroes above fifty have always existed in Indian films ,whatever language you name,they’ve been there. But heroines in that age group? Oh they become Maaaaaas!!! Not ONE of them-the MEN- could bear the thought, I suppose. Exceptions could be Ashok Kumar and Balraj Sahni, as far as I know. I’ve liked most of the heroes in their heyday. And some HAVE been tolerable beyond that. So many songs in your blog have brought back forgotten tunes to all of us,I’m sure. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for the lyrics. My girlfriend just said me to listen to this song. I found the song here http://sound9.mp3pk.com/indian/shareef_badmaash_1973/shareef_badmaash4(www.songs.pk).mp3 … But finding the lyrics was not easy for the song. Found it here after googling.

This was a good song in its time, but I know why this movie flopped – who in his right mind would want to see an aging hero trying to woo a young heroine, dressed in an orange shirt and orange pants to top off this ridiculous show? I almost gagged just now, looking at his clothes!
Poor RDB, he did a great job with the song, to be defeated by Dev Anand and his wardrobe!

Lalita ji you seem to be having some grudge against Dev sahab….he looks absolutely dashing in this song and nowhere near his actual age…he always wore such clothes and people loved it
