Mere deewanepan ki bhi dawaa nahin

“Mehboob ki Mehandi”(1971) is a lesser known movie starring Rajesh Khanna and Leena Chandawarkar, but this movie is a musical blockbuster. I have posted a few songs from this movie, and each of these songs is a gem.
Here is another song – “mere deewane pan ki bhi dawaa nahin”. It is sung by Kishore KUmar and picturised so wonderfully on Rajesh Khanna and Leena Chandawarkar. Picturisation shows Leena Chandawarkar wearing bright red ( or is it pink or orange ?) dresses as was the norm in Bollywood movies, and looking pretty and coy, as per the demands of her role.
The song was written by Anand Bakshi and the music was by Laxmikant Pyarelal. This song is indeed a gem, whether one just listens to it or watches the picturisation. It is a great song from a musical blockbuster.

Yes, may be I should make this change from “Mahboob” to “Mehboob”

I understand that this was one of the first flops of Kaka’s ‘Phenomenon’ phase when he could do no wrong! Apparently the film’s release coincided with the start of the 1971 Indo-Pak war and consequently flopped according to some. The songs, as you note, were very popular.
By the way, I recently watched the only other film where Kaka and Leena Chandavarkar were paired together, years later in Kishore Kumar’s last home production “Mamta Ki Chhaon Mein” released around 1989, I believe. Oh the ravages of time…..noone’s immune to it! Both Kaka and Leena had not aged well at all, apart from all the other problems that the film had.

The explanation given for th failure of this movie appears a plausible one.
You are right, the two did not age well.

Thanks for the post! A great ghazal by Kishore-da rendered in his own, non-traditional style!
Just a couple of small points about the lyrics:
In the 2nd verse: “kis kadar” should be “is kadar”.
In the 3rd verse: “ruf-e-gul” should be “rukh-e-gul”.

Lovely song.
This movie did not do well at the box-office but has very good songs.
I see you have posted 4 songs already.
(Btw, I was looking for Mehboob ki Mehndi in your “list” but I found them all under “Mahboob…”. Shouldn’t this be Mehboob….
Just to be consistent.
