Us mulk ki sarhad ki nigahbaan hain aankhen

Posted on: May 12, 2009

“Aankhen” (1968) begins with its its title/ theme song as the credits roll in. This song, sung by Rafi is quite a soul stirring song, one that rouse passions. Sahir Ludhianvi has written this song. His brief was to write a song on “Aankhen”, and he came up with this amazing song.

This song is not picturised on any actor. A few hand drawn portraits are shown alongwith credits, and this song, accompanied by Ravi’s music plays in the background . This song certainly sets the tone for the movie. It is a wonderful song, one that can even be regarded as a patriotic song, though the movie was nit a partiotic movie, rather a spy thriller.

Song-Har tarah ke jazbaat ka…us mulk ki sarhad ki nigahbaan hain aankhen (Aankhen ) (1968) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics- Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Ravi

Lyrics

us mulk ki sarhad ko koi chhoo nahin sakta
jis mulk ki sarhad ki nigahbaan hain aankhen

har tarha ke jazbaat ka elaan hain aankhen
har tarha ke jazbaat ka elaan hain aankhen
shabnam kabhi sholaa kabhi toofaan hain aankhen
shabnam kabhi sholaa kabhi toofaan hain aankhen

aankhon se badi koyi taraazu nahin hoti
aankhon se badi koyi taraazu nahin hoti
tulataa hai bashar jismen wo mijaan hain aankhen
tulataa hai bashar jismen wo mijaan hain aankhen

aankhen hi milaati hain zamaane mein dilon ko
aankhen hi milaati hain zamaane mein dilon ko
anjaan hain ham-tum agar anjaan hain aankhen
hoy anjaan hain ham-tum agar anjaan hain aankhen

lab kuchh bhi kahen usase haqeeqat nahin khulti
lab kuchh bhi kahen usase haqeeqat nahin khulti
insaan ke sach-jhooth ki pahchaan hain aankhen
insaan ke sach-jhooth ki pahchaan hain aankhen

aankhen na jhuken teri kisi ghair ke aage
aankhen na jhuken teri kisi ghair ke aage
duniyaa mein badi cheez meri jaan hain aankhen
hoy duniyaa mein badi cheez meri jaan hain aankhen

ho ho
us mulq ki sarhad ko koyi chhoo nahin saktaa
us mulq ki sarhad ko koyi chhoo nahin saktaa
jis mulq ki sarhad ki nigahbaan hain aankhen
jis mulq ki sarhad ki nigahbaan hain aankhen

As this film was a spy Thriller, aankhen here refer to the eyes of secret service. We went to see the movie on its re-releases matinee shows, mainly for the songs, “gairon pe karam” and “Milti hai zindagi main” . This title song had impressed a lot. Once or twice i must have heard it on radio too. But recently i remmebered it and again forgot to look up. The music is very punjabi /folkish isnt it ? It reminds me of “purab paschim” song ” Purva suhaani aayi re”.

You are lucky if you are able to listen this song and understand it. I love this song from my childhood and it still has the same freshness this is a real patriotic song

Very well said, its ‘real patriotic song’ !!! Rafi saab ‘after all’ and in the same tune i would say ‘ Sahir saab’ after all and Ravi ji – his tune creates the ‘patriotic magic’!
Atul ji, can we add the ‘patriotic song’ tag additionally to this song , since it talks of the ‘eyes’ that safeguards a ‘nation’ and its ‘borders’! thanks !
