I think I need to open a category of songs which I enjoyed listening to, even though I had no clue which movie they were from. Then I forgot all about these songs ( because the song alongwith its movie were forgotten) and then I stumbled upon the same song recently once more.
Here is yet another song of that nature. “Kaahe ko bulaaya mujhe baalma pyaar ke naam se”, was a song that I loved. But as I mentioned earlier, I did not know any details about this song.
Yesterday I came to know that this song was from “Hamshakal” (1974). It was a Rajesh Khanna- Tanuja movie, and one of the rare flops that Rajesh Khanna figured in at that time.
But what a song ! This song captures the magic of Bollywood music so nicely. Rafi and Lata singing an Anand Bakshi song composed by R D Burman, and picturised on Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja, it did not get any better than that those days.
The song was superb, and this was one of the songs that Rafi sang on his comeback trail, after he was dislodged from the top perch by Kishore Kumar in late 1960s and early 1970s.
The lyrics are wonderful, and the music more so. And indeed Rafi and Lata have sung this song brilliantly.
It is a gem, that for some reason has been forgotten by now. As far as I am concenned, this song is a timeless classic.

The whole Humshakal album is a great one Atul. Hope you post some more from it. Pity that the film was so unsatisfactory. It was directed by Jambu who made the fabulous “Apna Desh” with Kaka earlier.

What a great song. I didn’t know it was a dream song until the end. If you have to dream, dream it with Rajesh Khanna, I say!

Very nice song! I remember hearing it in some distant past, and since it is such a nice song, I too am amazed that it has not been featuring on all the CDs out in the market. I am glad you are doing your part in helping us remember these beautiful songs. Thanks, Atul!
