Chaand sa mukhdaa kyun sharmaaya

I was not aware that Sunil Dutt and Madhubala had ever worked together. Now I have come to realise that the two worked together in “Insaan Jaag Uthaa (1959).
Here is an evergreen song from this movie. It is a duet sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. Shailendra is the lyricist and S D Burman the music director.
The song is “Chaand sa mukhda kyun sharmaaya”. I had heard a lot about this song, but let me confess, I listened to this song for the first time only yesterday.

Lyrics
chaand saa mukhdaa kyun sharmaayaa
chaand saa mukhdaa kyun sharmaayaa
aankh mili aur dil ghabraayaa
chaand saa mukhdaa kyun sharmaayaa
aankh mili aur dil ghabraayaa
chaand saa mukhdaa kyun sharmaayaa
jhuk gaye chanchal nainaa ik jhalki dikhlaake
arre jhuk gaye chanchal nainaa ik jhalki dikhlaake
bolo gori kyaa rakhaa hai palkon mein chhupaake
tujhko re saanwariyaa tujhse hi churaake
tujhko re saanwariyaa tujhse hi churaake
nainon mein sajaayaa maine kajraa banaake
neend churaaye tume dil bhi churaaya
chaand saa mukhdaa kyun sharmaayaa
aankh mili aur dil ghabraayaa
chaand saa mukhdaa kyun sharmaayaa
ye bheege nazaare karte hain ishaare
ye bheege nazaare karte hain ishaare
milne ki ye rut hai gori din hain hamaare
sun lo piyaa pyaare kyaa kahte hain taare
sun lo piyaa pyaare kyaa kahte hain taare
hamne to bichadte dekhe kitnon ke pyaare
kabhi na alag huyi saayaa se kaayaa
chaand saa mukhdaa kyun sharmaayaa
aankh mili aur dil ghabraayaa
chaand saa mukhdaa kyun sharmaayaa

Oh, how I love this song! Once again, here is a song that flows like smooth wine, and the video is great, too, with Madhubala and Sunil dutt. My mother used to sing this song often, and I think of her when I listen to this song. Thanks, Atul!
