Aa jaayen jaane waalen

“Chandni Chowk” (1954) is a movie that is forgotten by now. But appears like this movie was made in altogether different era.
In this song, a very young Meena Kumari is seen willing her beloved to come back. It is difficult to imagine how things were like in those days. First of all, you had little say in choosing your beloved. And secondly, there used to be hardly any means of communications those days. Socially as well as technologically, people were communication challenged those days. Therefore when one’s beloved got separated, one actually lost track of him/ her. And getting reunited with one’s beloved was purely a game of chance. One needed enormous patience lasting for years for things to happen.
Here is a song from “Chandni Chowk” that goes “Aa jaayen jaane waale”. This song is written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and Roshan is the music director.
Song-Aa jaayen jaane waale (Chandni Chowk) (1954) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Roshan
aa jaayen jaanewale laut aayen bahaaren
aa ai papeehe pi ko zaraa milke pukaaren
aa jaayen jaanewale laut aayen bahaaren
aa ai papeehe pi ko zaraa milke pukaaren
teraa bhi wahi gham hai, meraa bhi wahi gham
donon ke dilon mein hai ik dard kaa maatam
ik dard kaa maatam
bigadi huyi taqdeeren aa milke sanwaaren
aa ai papiihe pi ko zaraa milke pukaaren
aayen naa wo to ik din ye shamaa bujhaake
jal jaayenge ghoonghat mein ham aag lagaake
ham aag lagaake
pi bin akele raaten ham kaise guzaaren
aa ai papeehe pi ko zaraa milke pukaaren
aa jaayen jaanewale laut aayen bahaaren
aa ai papeehe pi ko zaraa milke pukaaren
