Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ham jo miley to saara zamaana jaley

Posted on: May 29, 2009

In mainstream Bollywood movies, there are two standard fares. One is songs, and the other is fights.

I have always wondered why Bollywood movie makers cannot combine the two, and why cannot we have songs and fights simultaneously.

Just think of the possibilities. Shammi Kapoor is singing a mast Rafi song say “taareef karoon main uski jisne tumhe banaaya”, and simultaneously he is fighting Pran.

Too bad that none of the A grade movie makers have ever thought of this idea. In fact I wondered if there has ever been a song like this.

Now my wait is over. I stumbled upon just the kind of song I was dreaming about all these days. Here is a singing cum fighting song.

And this song is a duet song too. In other words, both hero and heroine are present in this song. Their love song is going on and fighting is also taking place. And do not think that only hero is fighting. This movie maker is an equal opportunity employer. Both Hero and heroines fight.

There is perfect distribution of resources. The hero and heroine sing one stanza of their song, and then the four baddies, who are waiting patiently for the stanza to end and the music to begin, charge at the leading duo, and get duly bashed up. Half of them at the hands of the hero, and the others at the hand of the heroine. Then singing of the next stanza of song commences and then the next round of fighting follows like clockwork.

This song is “ham jo mile to saara zamaana jale”. It is from “Raja aur Rani”(1973). Anil Dhawan and Aruna Irani are the pioneers of this song-cum-fight scene.

Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle sang this song. Hasrat Jaipuri wrote the lyrics and Satyam composed the music.

This song is a must watch for its picturisation, which is funny. And all this fun is inadvertent, of course.

PS- I was so “impressed” by this song that I have opened a new category specially for this song- viz Song-cum-fight category. If anyone is aware of more such songs, please let me no. Such hilarious “gems” should be known to all.

Hmm, I believe L-P’s ‘Geeta Mera Naam’ has one such fight-song – “Mohabbat Hi Mohabbat Hai” sung by Rafi and picturized on Feroz Khan.

And maybe “Ruk Meri Jaan” from RDB’s ‘Bundalbaaz’ would qualify as well, I seem to recall Rajesh Khanna dreaming about beating on Ranjeet a little in that song.

Thanks for bringing this category to light. Now I have something to think about during downtimes at the office today!

Hilarious.
I think there was a fight-dance song in Waaris (with Mehmood).
And isn’t there a famous one in Meri Jung (1985) ?

Here is the Waris song. It is a parody on many famous songs.

One more classic Song-cum-fight-
Jeetendra and Mehmood fighting it out with the goons of villain and singing appropriate lyrics 🙂
This is from the hit film ‘Humjoli’ (1970). Playback – Rafi & Kishore. Music – Laxmikant Pyarelal
