Today’s song is from the ‘1973’ movie ‘Samjhauta’. This movie had five songs already p0sted on the blog and it has been waiting for its final song since 17.07.2021, when the last song of this movie was posted.

The remaining song of this movie was already sent by our dear Prakash ji. I was about to send it with regular details to Atul ji so that we can ‘Yippeeee’ this movie.

However, when I listened to the song, its lyrics triggered some thoughts and what follows below are some real-life situations that I came across and the thoughts that came to my mind.

#Flashback-1, Year 2010#

Let me tell you one incidence. One fine day I was coming back, after finishing my work at the Bank at its Mundra (Kachchh) Port Branch. I was driving and on the way to my home in Mundra.

On the way there was a young lad waiving for lift. I give him lift and drive to Mundra. On reaching his destination he got off from the car and said thanks. I just enquired about him and came to know that he had finished his diploma in Mech Engineering just few months back and he was looking for a job.

He came from MP to his relatives at Mundra for job prospectus in their organisation, but that organisation did not oblige relatives of employees for job, so he was looking for other prospects.

The organisation where I was working were looking for candidates for my department i.e., Stores. So, I asked this guy to send his CV so that I can call him for an interview with the recruitment committee members.

However, there were some changes in the recruitment plans at our organisation, so it was all cancelled for then.

This guy later left Mundra to his hometown in MP and later I came to know that he got a job in a company having their works at Nagpur.

I was happy to know this.

During this period this guy was always in touch with me, as we share the same interests i.e., reading and writing.

I had in one of my post have mentioned how I started my professional journey and how people and my seniors helped me to become what I am today.
I will always be grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow.

Yes, some people like me are lucky enough to get ‘right push’ whereas many like me may be deprived of opportunities or that just one chance to prove themselves, and they might have been lost permanently in oblivion. After all it is a game of luck first and your hard work later, but combination of both always.

Inheriting the generousness from my parents and other generous people who helped me, it was very natural for me to help people as and when possible, given the resources I had.

The exposure I got at the workplace was also in favour as I got to be in ‘decision-making’ positions in all my professional life except the earlier few years. After that most of the time I was as an in-charge of something or other or Head of the Department for my function (in middle management layer).
Simultaneously with working I had joined learning through distance education mode. I was also attending many behavioural and functional trainings on my own. Sometimes these would be sponsored by my employer too. This all helped a lot in the growth of me professionally, personally, and functionally.

As usual for the position of a departmental head people always keep approaching for employment either for their near and dear ones, or distant relatives or friends and their relatives. Given my nature I always tried to help and give opportunity to people coming to me irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, and region.

I always tried to select people on the merit basis and those who are ready to work hard.
Since I had myself already gone through a tough route, I expect others to put that much of effort to gain the knowledge of the subject at work. Also, I wanted to ensure that no injustice is done to anybody.

Secondly, I was very much interested in training the new recruits, explaining them the processes and the needs of complying with the standards, by arranging various training programs for them.
I always enjoyed the joy of training somebody and imparting the training on functional as well as behavioural and the management standards. I was always ready to share whatever I know about anything.

I also wanted the boys to give their 100% percent and enjoy the work. Keep trying, learn new things and share all that I give to them. And so that simultaneously they can grow in their personal and professional life. (I must mention here that all of them who worked under me keep in touch with me even after my leaving the organisation and they fondly remember me. )

Sometimes I may have been more possessive for something, but whatever I had done was to achieve excellence in the function and to reduce the response time by giving prompt service to our customers – either internal or external.

During this process I was also exploring my ‘purpose’ of life. I want to realise what my true potential was. I meet my motivational guru Late Shri. Rooshikumar Pandya around this time in 2010.

My morale was very high during those days and I had also joined a new organisation as a ‘Manager’. I had also taken membership and later become a life member of AMA & QCFI in the quest of learning more. I was all enjoying this with my work.

It was then when I had got published my daughter’s poem when she was studying in VIIth standard only.
So overall I was just moving upward in all spheres of life.

#Flashback -2, Year 2015 …

I was at Nagpur and working with an engineering construction company. Before that in December’2014 I had left my job and was looking for job opportunities. I had contacted some of my close contacts – my ex-bosses – and that is how I finally landed in Nagpur.

Here I had the responsibility of maintaining supply of materials to the various sites running in different parts of the country. (It was during this period that I attended the Atulites’ gang-outs too).

Along with the responsibility at corporate office I was given an independent charge to look after our site works at Mundi (near Khandwa). We were also hiring peoples for different sites.

This guy, whom I mentioned above, who had met me at Mundra, was looking for a job. He had left the job at Nagpur, after working one year there he later joined studies for graduation in engineering. Now he had completed his studies and was looking for job opportunity.

He contacted me with a request to help him. I recommended him to my immediate senior to give him a chance.
What I was asked by my senior was how I knew this person and how he knew me?
I told the above incidence of giving lift to this person and what followed next.
(Some of my colleagues also crack jokes on me what I was doing).

How do I trust a guy whom I had meet only once and that too on the road? was the next question.

Chairman of this company was the same person who had given me a chance to work when he was my Site In charge at Parli – Vaijnath (in 1985) when I was working in construction line as a ‘storekeeper’ and had just started my journey of industrial working.

I told my senior (vice president) that we should give an opportunity to this person so that he can start earning something and shape his career further, in the same way how I was given an opportunity in the past. If I had not been given an opportunity to work in my earlier days, I would never have reached where I am today.

This person was included in the team, and he served there for almost two years. In between he was always discussing with me about his interests and each time I guided him to follow what his heart dctated. I also encouraged him as and when required.
(My guru had given us a ‘mantra’ ‘do whatever you want, but excel in whatever you do’.
This person then started uploading his ‘poetry recitation videos’ on YouTube.

Later he left the company to ‘realise his true potential’ and soon found his ‘purpose of life’. He keeps uploading his videos of ‘poem recitation’ on ‘YouTube’. Slowly his followers keep increasing on ‘YT’ and ‘Instagram’.

Meanwhile I left for Kenya for a job opportunity (where one of my ex-bosses was a director and there was a suitable opportunity suiting my profile).

***

I came back from Kenya after completing a project and I was there for almost three years.
The guy in my story is now famous as a ‘motivational speaker’, and famous for his ‘motivational poems’ and other ‘poems’ recitation’. His videos are watched and seen by many on YouTube and on Instagram.

He had also published a book of his writings.

Even today whenever we discuss he fondly remembers that day and always tells me ‘Sir, that day has changed my life forever, it is because of you whatever I have achieved today’.

“I quote a few lines from today’s song below

kitney hi taansen gumnaam rah gaye ae
ek mauka naa milaa to
naakaam ho gaye
tulsidas kayee hain
kayee tagore bhi yahaan
ek aap hi na samjhen
hain ghaalib aur bhi yahaan
hain laakhon kalaakaar
paarkhi ki kami hai
heerey to hain hazaar
jauhari ki kami hai

That reminded me of the following ‘sanskrit shloka’ which my guru used to quote in his training programs.

“Aamantram aksharon naasti
Naasti mulamanaushdham
Ayogya puroshoh naasti
Yojaksya tatra durlabh”

‘There is not a single letter of an alphabet out of which you cannot make a ‘mantra’,
There is not a single root of a tree out of which you cannot make a ‘medicine’,
There is not a single person who is unfit or incapable,
The one who brings out mantra from a letter of an alphabet, medicine from the root of a tree, and the best of people, those people are rare’

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
—————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 148 # A tribute to Kishore Kumar#
———————————————–———————————————

Today 4th August 2021 is the ninety-second birth anniversary of legendary Kishore Kumar.

He was born on 4th August 1929 at Khandwa (nowadays MP) and passed away on 13th October’1987 at Mumbai. Had he been alive, he would have celebrated his ninety-second birthday today. But he passed away at the age of fifty-eight years only and left his musical memories with us forever to cherish and enjoy.

For today’s occasion, I was looking for a song from a movie not presented on the blog and a song which is different. While searching in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) I came across today’s movie ‘Yauwan’. I was neither aware of the movie nor its songs.

Luckily this movie has not been presented on the blog and it contains a Kishore Kumar song and that too a ‘solo’ song. This is also the only Kishore Kumar song in this movie. And this is the song which I do not remember to have listened earlier. A low-pitched soft song this song serves the purpose of being a ‘different song’ from other well-known Kishore Kumar songs still to come up on the blog. This is a lesser heard song too. In summary, this song is just what the doctor ordered. 🙂

“Yauwan-1973” was directed by Ranjan Bose for ‘N.P. International, Bombay’. It was produced by N.P. Singh. It had Yogeeta Bali, Anil Dhawan, Sujit Kumar, Sundar, Mohan Choti, Jankidas, Poornima, Sajjan, Aashu, Rajpal, Renu, Rajanibala, Amar Grewal, Rameshwar, Bharat, Ratan Gaurang, Mehta, Sharma, Jugnu, Baby Sajju, Rajpal and others.

It had Kabir Bedi also featuring in a special appearance which the movie titles mentioned as ‘and a brief encounter with Kabir Bedi’ 😊

Story and screenplay of this movie was written by Ranjan Bose who was also the director of this movie. Dialogues of this movie were written by Madan Joshi and editing was done by Bhaskar Rao.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 12.02.1973.

“Yauwan-1973” had five songs in it, all written by Onkar Verma. Music for this movie was composed by Sonik-Omi.

All the five songs in this movie are solo songs. Four of them are sung by Asha Bhonsle and one by Kishore Kumar.

Here is the list of songs in this movie as appearing in the movie-page of this movie in HFGK Vol-V.

S.No Song Title Singer/s
01 Ye reshmi andhera lut jaane ka mausam Asha Bhonsle
02 Bandariya naach dikhaaye ki haathi dhhol bajaaye Asha Bhonsle
03 Jalta hai ye tan, sun o jaaneman Asha Bhonsle
04 Tumhaari berukhi se pareshaan hain nazaare Kishore Kumar
05 Kuchh chaahe aye aa, kuchh dhhoondhhe aye aa Asha Bhonsle

As mentioned above today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar . It is lip-synced by Anil Dhawan who is singing the song to cheer up Yogeeta Bali.

I have not watched this movie so can’t say much about it. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie ‘Yauwan-1973’ and its songs.

Let us now listen to today’s song and pay our tributes to one and the only ‘Kishore Kumar’.

With this song, the movie ‘Yauwan-1973’ makes its debut on the blog.

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
—————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 145 # Samjhauta-1973
———————————————–—————————–—

Browsing the blog always brings some surprises for me and reminds me of some forgotten songs. There are movies where some of their songs are very popular and familiar, while the some songs from these films remained unexplored and forgotten.

Today’s movie is one such example.

Lots of nostalgia is associated for me with the “Samjhauta”(1973) songs ‘badi door se aaye hain, pyaar ka tohfaa laaye hain’ and ‘samjahuta ghamon se kar lo’. I have not watched this movie but I was aware of these songs as these songs were extremely popular songs of those days, even among people who never watched this movie. Recently I came across this movie on the blog and then I realised that only three songs (including the multiple version title song) from this movie have been covered on the blog. The third song being ‘sab ke rehte lagtaa hai jaise koi nahin hai meraa’. I am familiar with this song as well. But I was oblivious of the remaining two songs from this movie.

Moreover, if we note the dates of the earlier songs posted – two in 2008 and one in 2010 (or precisely on 24.07.2010)- the last time a song from “Samjhauta”(1973) was covered in the blog as was nearly eleven years ago !

Today I present the fourth song from this movie ‘Samjhauta-1973’.

“Samjhautaa-1973” was directed by Ajoy Biswas for ‘Jwala Pictures Pvt. Ltd, Bombay’. It was produced by Sundeep Sethi. It had Yogita Bali, Anil Dhawan, Shatrughan Sinha, Ajitesh, Pradeep Kumar, Naaz, Sulochana, Asit Sen, Sajjan, Randhir, Tarun Bose, Jankidas, Manik Dutt, Jagdish Raj, Polsan, Dilip Dutt, Madhu Apte, Samar Roy, Gautam Mukherji, Bachan Singh, Sajan, Prem Master Bunty.

This movie introduced Ajitesh Bannerjee, and Keshto Mukherjee and Bipin Gupta had a special appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Sukhen Das, whereas the screenplay and dialogues of this movie was written by Inder Raj Anand.

Editing of this movie was done by Tarun Dutta.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 31.05.1973.

This movie had six songs including one multiple version song.

Lyrics for five out of six songs were written by Indeevar (including one multiple version song) and for one song lyrics were written by Verma Malik.

Music for this movie was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Following is the list of the songs from this movie as mentioned in HFGK Vol-V (1981-1980).

Sno Song Title Singer Lyricist Posted On
1 Tanak tuk tandaa… aise logon ka dhandhaa Kishore Kumar Verma Malik Being discussed today
2 Badi door se aaye hain Mohd Rafi Indeevar 03.12.2008
3 Koi nahin hai meraa Mohd Rafi Indeevar 21.11.2008
4 Samjhauta ghamon se kar lo Lata Mangeshkar Indeevar 24.07.2010
5 Sainkado Kishore yahaan… Kishore Kumar Indeevar Not Posted yet
6 Samjhauta ghamon se kar lo Kishore Kumar Indeevar 24.07.2010

In the movie credits the name of Mukesh is mentioned among playback singers, with Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar and Mohd Rafi. (Mukesh’s voice appears in the song ‘badi door se aaye hain)

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar. Anil Dhawan is lip-syncing the song and performing on it on screen. Asit Sen and many others can be seen in the picturisation of this song.

This song is the very first song in the movie and appears as the movie starts. The song is shown as played at a ‘nautanki function’ in a village setting, where the hero is laments at the society’s changing behaviour and how the moral values are going down.

Blog Day :

4396 Post No. : 15767 Movie Count :

Today is the 31st of July.
A date that has an immediate connect with most HFM lovers, for it signifies to them the passing away of one of Hindi film industry’s biggest legends.

Mohammad Rafi, or, as many (including myself) refer to him with the greatest respect, Rafisaab.

Today is his 40th death anniversary – and all of us here on the blog, and I’m sure millions around the world, remember him with great love, affection and respect.

That I’m a big Rafisaab fan is no secret.
This is also why, despite any other constraints I might have, I always try to write a post on 24th Dec (his birthday) and 31st July (death anniversary) for this blog.
It is my very small way of paying respect to someone who has given me so much joy in my life from just listening to his voice. I already feel blessed to be able to listen to him. To then be able to write about him is such a pleasure, and yet a humbling experience.

In many of my previous posts on Rafisaab, I’ve discussed him not just as a singer par excellence but also as a very special human being. For me, it’s difficult to separate the artiste from the person.
And in Rafisaab, I find myself lost in admiration on both counts – his mastery of his art, and his character as a human being.

In life one comes across, or reads about, all sorts of people.
There’s a lot to learn from others, their conduct and experiences in life.
The other day I’d written about Rajesh Khanna and how his life, inspite of all the mistakes he made, is a lesson for others.
The same applies to Rafisaab too – although not due to his mistakes, but due to his elevated thinking.
Much to learn from it.

The industry, for all its seeming “biraadari” and bhai-chaara, can be a nasty place. Stories of egos, back-stabbing, credit-grabbing, politics abound. Many artistes themselves say it’s a dog-eats-dog industry.

And yet, in such an industry, there was also a Rafisaab.

Throughout his career, from the late 40s till he passed away in 1980, there wasn’t a single blemish on his character. No story of ego, or back-stabbing or politics, or anything of that sort.
It’s quite remarkable – but that was Rafisaab.
Others in the industry might have tried to throw their weight around, even manipulate or belittle Rafisaab, but he never reciprocated with any anger or vengeance. He was on a different plane altogether – an elevated one.
This is why though there were incidents with legends like BR Chopra, OP Nayyar and Lata Mangeshkar, they always patched up with him.
Such was Rafisaab’s personality – you just could not but respect him, inspite of any difference of opinion you have.

Stories of Rafisaab’s humility abound.
Whenever he’d be praised for a song, he’d point upwards to suggest it was all God’s doing.
Such was his humility that he would ask a composer after singing “Was it ok?” And if the composer had even the slightest doubt, Rafisaab would sing it again.
This, even with composers of far less stature than Rafisaab.
No ego, just thorough professionalism, and the desire to give the best he could.

Stories of Rafisaab’s generosity abound. How he would take just a one-rupee token fee from struggling composers. How he would support various poor and underprivileged people, without the slightest fuss or publicity.

It’s hard to imagine a person like this in today’s world. Such a soft-spoken, gentle person, ever-smiling, and with so much kindness in his heart.

Yes, there’s a lot to learn from Rafisaab, the person.

I’m no singer (ok, am just a bathroom singer) but am sure professional singers would have a lot to learn from Rafisaab’s professionalism, and sheer dedication to his profession. He always tried to give the very best he could – because that is what the composer, and the public, deserved. So no half-hearted measures or shortcuts.

Mind you, for a large part of his career, he was a superstar singer, so he could have got away without so much effort. But he wouldn’t be Rafisaab then. Right till the end, whether it was his riyaaz at home, or his rehearsals, or recordings, the effort and dedication was a hundred percent.

Like most artistes, Rafisaab also had ups and downs in his career.
One fine day, from being the most popular male voice for at least two generations, he found himself overshadowed by Kishore Kumar as the most popular voice of a new generation. It obviously hit him hard – his self-confidence apparently took a bit of a beating.

But, like they say, you can’t keep a good man down for long – and Rafisaab came back.
And how!
By 1976-77, with Laila Majnu, Amar Akbar Anthony and Hum Kisise Kam Nahin all featuring hit songs from him prominently, he was back with a bang.

From then on, till his death in 1980, he was very much back in business. That’s how you come back even when you seem to be down and out.

Yes, there’s a lot to learn from Rafisaab, the artiste.

No wonder I am such a big fan of Rafisaab.
And I know I’m in pretty good company.
Company of at least a few million others.

I haven’t talked about Rafisaab’s songs here – what can I say? Right from his very early days, with songs like “yahaan badla wafaa ka” and “ik dil ke tukde” to his last days, with songs like “tu is tarah”, Rafisaab’s voice was totally in a league of its own.
Divinity incarnate.

And add to this divine voice, his control over pitch, his intonations, the “thehraav” in his voice. No wonder he could sing “o duniya ke rakhwaale” and “meri duniya mein tum aayi”, two songs on two totally opposite ends of the spectrum, with equal aplomb. Such was his mastery that he could easily adapt his voice to blend with any mood or moment.
Happy, teasing or sad.
Ghazal, qawwali or bhajan.
One moment, the despair of “ye mehlon ye takhton”. The next, the fun and frolic of “sar jo tera chakraaye”. Listen to this, and you feel it IS Johnny Walker’s voice.

Yes, that was another Rafisaab skill. To seamlessly adapt his voice to the actor on screen.

The “thehraav” in Rafisaab’s voice is something that I can never get enough of. I’ve listened to the title song of “Mere Mehboob” so many times, just to marvel at the “thehraav”.

Listening to Rafisaab’s voice is therapeutic for me. Whatever be my frame of mind, I just have to close my eyes and listen to “pukaarta chala hoon main”, and I suddenly feel better. 🙂

I could go on and on, but let me now move on to the song for today.

A few days ago, I was on youtube listening to some Rafisaab songs. But this time, instead of listening to his popular songs, I thought I’d look for lesser-known ones. There’s a special joy in discovering songs you’ve never heard before. True of any singer, but for me, especially true of Rafisaab.

I came across a few, shared them with Avinashji too, because he’s an even bigger Rafisaab fan than I am. 🙂

It was an enriching experience, since there were some songs with a decent spattering of Urdu – always a delight for me. 🙂

Today’s song isn’t one in this category. But I loved it the first time I heard it a few days ago, so I decided it would be the song for today.

Actually, I’m somewhat surprised I hadn’t heard this song before. Surprised because it’s from a 1982 film, Raakh Aur Chingaari. Starring Vinod Mehra, Vidya Sinha and Anil Dhawan. 1982 was still within my “active consciousness” of films and songs, and these actors are prominent actors – but somehow this film and song seem to have passed me by.

I also noticed that this film doesn’t figure on the blog yet – another surprise. So it’s making its debut here today.

Then the lyricist & composer. Lyrics by Tajdar Taj, music by Ratandeep Hemraj. Both new names for me.

I see that this combo is already on the blog in Sudhirji’s post.

But what is surprising is that this was MY era, and yet these names are new to me. It’s a very humbling realization. 🙂

I like the lyrics and the music – and of course, Rafisaab’s voice.

This happens to be a multiple-version song. The female version is sung by Chandrani Mukherjee.

So here it is “ye anjaan raahen”. Hope you like the song too.

And Rafisaab, you will always remain in our hearts.
Always.
There’s a very special place for you in all our hearts.
Thank you for making life that much more worth living. 🙂

Today’s song is from the 1974 movie ‘Hawas’. This movie is mostly known by its song “Teri Galiyon Mein Na Rakkhenge Kadam“. I remember that this song was frequently played on radio and loud speakers in those years. And I too associate this movie only with this song and had never tried to listen to the other songs of this movie. And yes, I never get to watch this movie until now.

So, when our dear Prakash ji had sent a song from this movie, I was eager to know about the other songs from this movie. So far, two songs (including the song mentioned above) from this movie have been posted on the blog.

‘Hawas’ is directed by Sawan Kumar for ‘Mercury Productions’. He was also the producer, storywriter and the lyricist of this movie. The star cast includes Anil Dhawan, Neetu Singh, Bindu, Vidya Sinha, Shiv Kumar, Fariyal, Pradeep Kumar, Randhawa and Mehmood. Supported by Pichoo Kapoor, Ashok Khanna, Randhir, Asit Sen, Shera, Basant, Neelam, Nelu, Sharmilee, Jugnu, and Coca-cola. Rekha and Vinod Mehra made friendly appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie is written by Sawan Kumar while the screenplay was written by Bimal Dutt. Dialogues were written by Ameen Sayani and editing of this movie was done by YG Chouhan. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 11.06.1974 with ‘restricted viewing’ certificate.

This movie has five songs sung by Asha Bhonsle (four songs) and Mohd Rafi (one solo song).  Lyrics for all the five songs are written by Sawan Kumar and music is composed by Usha Khanna.

Today, 8th July is the sixty-second birth anniversary of actress Neetu Singh (born on 08th July, 1958). On this occasion here is a song from this movie picturized on her. She is lip-syncing Asha Bhonsle’s voice on the screen and many other female artists and Anil Dhawan can be seen in the picturization of this song.

I had never listened to this song earlier. It’s lovely song and grows upon if we listen to it more and more.

Let us now enjoy the today’s song …

Blog Day : 4029 Post No. : 15145

When you enjoy something, you can keep doing it without treating it as a chore. On the other hand, if you consider something as a burden, you cannot bring yourself to do it and you start postponing it till you can no longer postpone it.

July is one such month when one is required to perform such unpleasant tasks. If one is an Indian tax payer then he must file his tax return by the end of this month. Most people find it an unpleasant task and keep postponing it. When they finally persuade themselves to do it on the last day, they find that others have also got the same idea. Since many people are trying to do the same thing at the same time, the system crashes and that throws things out of gear for everyone concerned.

The government also realises it and the last date is often extended. This year was no exception. The last date of filing income tax return has now been extended by one month. The last minute IT return filers will now procrastinate till end of august and will then scramble to file their returns on 31 august 2019, I am sure of it. 🙂

If one is an income tax return filer as well as a central government employee then one has another unpleasant task to perform in this month. This task is, filling up one’s performance review for the last year. It is called APAR (Annual Performance Appraisal Report).

In the past, things were done manually. Now everything is done online. So, government officers file their APAR as well as ITR electronically.

For someone like me, who is an experienced computer user, filing online APAR and ITR should not be a problem. But even I find them daunting.

Just like there is a deadline for filing ITR, there is a deadline for APAR as well. Officers in various central governments have time schedule, viz officers would file their self appraisal by 30 june 2019, reporting officer would give his report by 31 july 2019, reviewing officer would give his remark by 31 august 2019 and accepting officer by 15 september etc. Different departments and zones have their own time frame that may be a bit flexible. For instance, in my Railweay zone, one could file self appraisal by 15 july 2019 and reporting officer had to give their review by 5 august 2019 and reviewing officer by 20 august 2019 and accepting officer by 10 september 2019.

Last date for me to file my self appraisal in my APAR was 15 july 2019. It was threatened that after 15 july 2019, the form would move to the next authority (reporting officer) on its own if self appraisal was not done by that date. I took no action till 11 july 2019. Then I started to act. I collected data and filled up the relevant portions and then saved the data. That was on friday 12 july 2019.

The next step was to digitally sign it and forward it online to the reporting authority. Digital signature turned out to be a big hassle. Every Government officer has a digital signature ( in a USB token form) with him that he uses for digital signatures for various purposes like filing APAR, authorising purchases etc. These digital signatures are valid only for two years. You merrily use a digital signature and before you realise it, its validity is over. Then one has to apply for new token.

The digital signature that I had successfully used till six months ago was no longer working and so I had obtained a new digital signature. And this was registered in the APAR software as well. But when I tried to sign my APAR form digitally, I got error message. I tried the whole friday and also saturday but I could not get my digital signature working.

I was not the only one struggling with my APAR of course. There were others as well. When I discussed my dilemma with others on the same boat, I was advised that the solution was to de register the digital signature and then re register it.

On monday (15 july 2019), which was the last day for my APAR to be sent, I tried to follow the advice. I de registered the digital signature and then re registered it. Then, with bated breath, I proceeded on to affix digital signature. Much to my relief, this time it worked like a charm and my APAR went through duly digitally signed, to the next authority, viz reporting officer.

I too was reporting officer and/or reviewing officer for many officers and their APARs had arrived in my inbox. So I proceeded to write them. The most satisfying part of the exercise for me was to digitally sign the document and find the satisfying message that the digitally signed document was successfully sent to the next authority. I quickly finished up all APAR’s in one day when the going was good and the digital signature was co operating.

That done, I began to feel as if I had won a big battle. Now I began to prepare myself mentally for filing the ITR. Going by past experience, I know that one should not try to file ITR on the last day. One should file it at least a few days in advance when income tax department servers are lightly loaded and respond well. On the last day, one may not even get access to these servers.

In the past, ITR filing was a manual process and it had to be submitted in the local Income tax office, duly taking stamped acknowledgement. It was a hassle and so many people, including me, would pay money to some chartered accountant, who would bring an ITR form and take your signature on it. Then he would fill up the various columns, submit the form to the income tax office and give you the stamped acknowledgement.

The chartered accountant earned his money because it was a work full of hassles. The income tax rates kept on changing every year. Moreover, female employees had different income tax rates. So I would just get in touch with a chartered accountant and pay him for filing ITR for me as well as my wife.

Since 2012 or so, it has become possible to file income tax online. One could file it online, and also digitally sign if you had a digital signature with you. I would resolve to have a digital signature for myself, but I could never live up to this resolution. So, the next best thing was to take print our of the online filled form, sign it manually and send it to Income tax department at Bangalore. After a few months, you would receive acknowledgement that your ITR was accepted.

When online filing of ITR became possible, I began to do it for me and my wife.

since this was once in a year exercise, I would forget how I had filled up the ITR the last year and I would start afresh. The realisation that I had forgotten how it is done that was acting as a dampner for me to take up the task of filing the ITR.

Though the last date for filing ITR was extended to 31 july 2019, I decided that it was high time that I mustered enough courage and be done with it. So, it was on 29 july 2019 that I opened the computer and logged on to the income tax department site. It was there that I got stuck. What was my user name and password ? With some online query, I realised that one’s PAN number was the user ID. Then I typed my password on a hunch and it worked. So I was relieved. I was finally logged on to the income tax department site.

I chose the option of filing the return online. I had my form 16 ready with me. I managed to put most values correctly and was pleased that the online calculator agreed with the calculations of form 16. But when I reached the portion that calculated income tax, I found that I was supposed to pay some more tax according to IT department calculation, whereas my form 16 showed that I had paid more tax than needed and IT department owed me some refund.

Where was the discreparcy ? On careful scrutiny, I realised that I had not mentioned my contribution towards PM national relief fund, which was 100 % tax deductible. But how to enter this figure ? The relevant column of section 80 G was not accepting the figure. Then I realised that the ITR form had another tab for donations under sction 80 G. I went to that tab, filled the details and found that the relevant column in the form now accepted this figure. I also found that now the form 16 figures of income tax matched with the online calculation. So IT department was now in agreement that I had paid all my IT and I owed some refund.

That done, I saved the draft and came to the final part which is always my favourite part, sending the filled up form. I clicked the send button. The form displayed two errors, one was that I had to specify the bank account where refund is to be received. Second error was about using some prohibited special characters. I rectified the errors and clicked the button. This time the form was submitted.

Submission was alright, but form needed to be verified as well. It was only after verification that the IT department processes it. The traditional method is to take a print out, sign it and send it by post to IT department at Bangalore. It is the older and non elegant method of doing it, which used to be the method followed by majority of tax filers. But now several method of e verification are available and the IT department keeps adding to it. Last time I had done the e verification though online banking. This time I found a new option, viz e verification through Aadhaar. I chose this option. One gets OTP on one’s Aadhar registered mobile and this OTP is then needed to be typed in on the form. When I did not get the OTP for some time, I again clicked the verify by Aadhaar button. When OTP came and I filled it, I had a feeling that second click meant another OTP and the OTP filled my me was for the earlier click and so my e verification would fail.

I was right. My e mail advised me that my e verification had failed.

I braced myself and repeated the process again. This time I patiently waited for the OTP to arrive. It arrived and I keyed in the numbers. Now I received confirmation message that my aadhaar verification was successful, the ITR was submitted and e verified and I did not have to do anything else.

I felt jubilant. Now it was time to do the same for my wife’s ITR. She had sent her IT details to me by whatsapp, but my mobile storage was full and while deleting my storage, I had deleted her IT details as well. I was itching to process my wife’s IT return but I did not have any details to go by.

After lunch time, I phoned my wife and asked her to send her tax details. Armed with those details, I opened the IT department page and tried to log on. But I got an error- username or password incorrect ! I checked again. The username, viz PAN number was right. Was the password incorrect ? How to check it. I found that I had fortunately saved the details of my wife’s previous ITR. The password that I typed was incorrect. I fed the correct details and this time I was relieved to find the page opening.

Feeding the details was no problem. I found that the details were already filled up in the form. Apparently, IT department already had picked up the details of her IT return from her form 26AS (TRACES). So the details matched perfectly.

So I saved the draft and submitted the return. As for e verification, I thought that I should do it through online banking. I did that and the OTP that came on my wife’s registered mobile was filled. But the e verification could not be done. Perhaps I had done some mistake. I should have logged out of ITax department site before going to bank site. So I decided to do it through Aadhaar verification. On clicking this option, the IT site demanded aadhaar OTP within 2 minutes. This 2 minute limit was not there when I was doing it for my own tax return. Thankfully the OTP arrived in time and I fed the OTP with 30 seconds to spare. This time the e verification was a success. So, I was able to file the IT return of my wife as well.

As always, when the task gets accomplished, I feel that it was easy ! But in the next eleven months, I would have forgotten the process and I would again get nervous and feel clueless when it is time to file the ITR the next year. 🙂

After this rather long writeup, I struggled to come up with a “suitable” song to go with it. Then I tried to visualise what the lead pair of Hindi movies will do after they accomplish such an important task. They will go outdoors and sing a joyous duet, of course. 🙂

So, here is just that joyous duet song. The song is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Satyam.

The movie was directed by K S R Das for PNR Pictures, Madras. the movie had Anil Dhawan, Aruna Irani, Jyoti Laxmi, Narendranath, Jagdeep, Sulochana, Ramaprabha, Brahm Bhardwaj, Shetty, Coca Cola, Shekhar, Swaraj, Prem Kumar, Master Ripple Sapru, Bindu (special appearance), Baby Dolly, Baby Charulata etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the past.

The song is picturised on Anil Dhawan and an unfamiliar looking lady. Going by the cast, my guess is that she is Jyoti Laxmi. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the lady.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

July the 3rd is the date when the son of a favorite singer of mine, who is equally my favourite turns a year younger. It is the 67th birthday of Amit Kumar Ganguly. The all-rounder musician – he is a playback singer and music director in addition to being an actor and director.
He made his acting debut as an 11 or 12-year-old in “Door Gagan Ki Chaon Mein” (1964) and had his father singing for him “aa chal ke tujhe main leke chaloon ek aise gagan ke tale”. He played a mute kid whose eyes conveyed a lot of emotion. His eyes still convey a lot of emotion- we mostly see mischief there. 🙂 His next screen appearance was again with his father in a short role in “Door Ka Rahi” (1971). “Main ik panchchi matwala re” was a song that was recorded for the movie which was later edited out from the final cut of the movie and used inn a later Kishore Kumar production “Mamta Ki Chaon Mein”. Whatever acting he has done is mostly in movies produced by his father. He has acted in about six movies and took on the mantle of director to complete his fathers’ “Mamta ki Chaon Mein” which released in 1989; two years after his father, the legendary Kishore Kumar, passed away.

I have seen a video on youtube where Amit Kumar mentions how his proud father Kishore Kumar presented him on stage as part of a “Kishore Kumar Nite” in the 70s. He has related how the father-son duo had planned on his entry on to the stage and so many other anecdotes are there in that video.

I made some mental notes after seeing that video. Today’s song is selected from those notes- the first song that I discovered in that video has been shared on the blog by Sudhirji – a Madan Mohan marvel “hai shaam badi matwali” from the 1980 release “Chaalbaaz” which was one of the first few songs that he sang outside of his father’s production.

The very first time that he sang for someone other than his father was for the music director duo Sapan- Jagmohan. (I know that either our in-house encyclopedia or Sudhirji have written a brief introduction to this lesser known music director jodi). The movie was “Darwaza” by the Ramsay Brother’s production house.

The movie had a cast of Anju Mahendru, Shyamlee, Anil Dhawan, Imtiaz Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Sheetal, etc etc. The movie had Naqsh Lyallpuri as the lyricist. It movie had around three songs all of them solos -two by Asha Bhonsle and one was by Amit Kumar. “Darwaza” released in 1978, was reasonably popular. I remember we were not allowed to see the movie as it was given an “Adults Only” certificate by the censor board, it was supposed to be a horror movie. I have not yet seen it, 🙂

So here we are wishing our dear Amit Kumar a very happy birthday (belated) with a song which, though not as popular as his “bade achche lagte hain” or other songs of his under R D Burman’s baton, is very soothing to the ears.

“Ek Hans Ka Joda”(1975) was directed by Avtar Bhogal for Punch Films, Bombay. This “social” movie had Anil Dhawan, Zaahira, Utpal Dutt, Indrani Mukherji, Ifthikar, Achla Sachdev, Anwar Hussain, Brahm Bhardwaj, Prabhu Dayal, Birbal, B Bhalla, Mama, Pushpanjali, Manorama, Sudama, Shreedhar Naik, Sunil Hattangadi, Madhu, Madhavi, Dolly, Sitara, V Gopal, with Anjali Kadam (guest appearance), and Dharmveer (new discovery) and Ajit Singh (new discovery).

The movie had five songs in it. Three songs have been covered in the past.

Here is the fourth song from “Ek Hans Ka Joda”(1975) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. Naqsh Llayalpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Jaidev.

The song is picturised on Anil Dhawan and Zahira.

The songs of this movie were barely noticed during its time. Personally I do not recall having heard this song before till now.

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 61 # Movies with same titles ‘Haar Jeet’
———————————————–—————————————–

Recently our dear Kamath Saab shared the song ‘Mast Pawan Shaakhen Lehraayen’ from the 1940 movie ‘Haar Jeet’. And seeing that post I immediately recalled sharing one song from the film having the same title – ‘Haar Jeet’ and released in 1972. I thought that a song from this ‘Haar Jeet’ (1972) was already posted on the blog. Or maybe it was discussed in some post or mentioned in comments on the blog.

And very co-incidentally few days before the post of Kamath Saab I was browsing the blog for the movies that I was searching in the ‘list-of-songs-by-movies’ but was unable to locate them. At that time I also searched for this movie ‘Haar Jeet’ (1972), but could not locate it.  Simultaneously I succeeded to locate ‘Chaacha Bhateeja’ (1977), which was recently introduced on the blog. The spelling I was searching with was ‘Chacha Bhatijaa’ (like ‘Chacha Chaudhary’ (1953) and ‘Chacha Zindabad’ (1959)). Then I also found the movie ‘Samaapti’ (1949) which I tried to search with wrong 🙂 options like ‘Sampatti’.

When I could not locate the 1972 ‘Haar Jeet’, I tried to search it with different spelling combinations. But could not succeed. So, I concluded that this movie is yet to make a debut on the blog. And if this post, is passed by our Central Board of Post Certification 😉 this movie is going to make a debut on the blog today. This post and the debut of this movie also serves one of my ‘purpose’ of introducing the ‘movies having same title’.

My last post in this endeavor was on 24 Sep 2016 when I shared the song Ye Pyaar Bada Beimaan Hai from the 1951 movie ‘Saudaagar’. After such a long gap, even I have to ask myself – ‘itney din tum kahaan rahe’ 🙂

On our blog we already have ‘Haar Jeet’ from 1940 and also from 1954. Today this ‘third’ ‘Haar Jeet’ of 1972 makes a debut on the blog. This film is directed by CP Dixit for ‘Prithvi Pictures, Bombay’. It was a social movie. In a footnote, HFGK makes a note that this movie was based on the story of K Balachander’s ‘Thamarai Nenjam’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 10.04.1972. It has Rehana Sultan, Anil Dhawan, Radha Saluja, Mehmood, Madan Puri, Dhoomal, Baby Sarika, Master Alankar, Baby Tabassum, Chintu, Bhola, Jal Khatau, Arun Kumar and Kamini Kaushal in friendly appearance.

The film has four songs as per HFGK Vol- V. All the four songs are written by Anand Bakshi, and music is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey have lent their voices to the songs in this movie.

Today’s song is a lovely duet sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar and lip synced on screen by Radha Saluja and Anil Dhawan respectively. Lyrics are by Anand Bakshi, and music is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Since I had not watched this movie I could not say much about this movie or its songs. I would request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

tum kahaan rahe
tum kahaan rahe

jo baat tujh mein hai

It would be an interesting exercise, to do a series of songs, wherein one song is introduced through another song. So many times it happens, a song starts to play, and the mind automatically thinks of another song that expresses similar emotions. I am sure we will be able to list numerous such pairs. There is after all, only so many emotions that the human mind plays with. It is the poet’s mind that will express the same thought in a huge variety of combinations of words.
