Jitni haseen ho tum

Rafi was not only gifted with a divine voice, he was also a very humble and considerate individual. He would help out struggling music directors and would sing for them virtually for nothing. And he would give his best to these songs. There are countless Rafi songs sung for anonymous music directors which were picturised on forgotten/ forgettable actors. Quite a few of these songs are very nice and hummable songs.
Here is a song from a C grade movie called “Mangu Dada” (1970). This Rafi song is picturised on Sujit Kumar and Fariyal. Jaan Nissar Akhtar is the lyricist and C Arjun is the music director.
The song may not be familiar to most, but it is a nice song to listen to.

Song-jitni haseen ho tum (Mangu Dada) (1970) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Jaan Nissar Akhtar, MD- C Arjun
Lyrics
main kya bataaun kya ho
jitni haseen ho tum
tum ko sajaa rakha hai
palkon ki chilmanon ne
tum saans le rahi ho
jis dil ki dhadkanon me
itni kareeb hokar
itni kareeb hokar
phir kyun judaa judaa ho
jitni haseen ho tum
mujhko siwaa tumhaare
kuch bhi pata nahin hai
duniya me hai to kya hai
duniya me kya nahin hai
badgumaan ho
tum phir bhi badgumaan ho
naraaz ho khafaa ho
jitni haseen ho tum
hamne saaze wafaa na paayi
apne liye tumhaari koyi adaa na paayi
lagta hai yoon ke mujhse
lagta hai yoon ke mujhse
rootha mera khuda ho
jitni haseen ho tum
utni hi bewafa ho
phir bhi mere liye tum
phir bhi mere liye tum
main kya bataaun kya ho
jitni haseen ho tum
utni hi bewafa ho
jitni haseen ho tum
utni hi bewafa ho
hmm lalalalala

Have heard this song for the first time in my life today – and liked it quite a lot. Rafi saab’s lilting voice is in evidence here.
Thanks for bringing these obscure songs back into the public domain, Atul. I doubt if many would have heard this song – so it is very nice that these also have their moment of fame, if only through your blog.
