Even obscure movies can have wonderful music, as I have realised very well by now. And when it comes to finding out about obscure movies, Memsaab Story is just the blog. It is there that I learnt about obscure movies like “Miss Mary”,”Oonche Log”,”Ek Raaz”,”Aaya Toofaan”,”Reporter Raju” etc.Not just that, Greta (Memsaab) can identify lots and lots of humorous situations in these movies ( not intended to be humorous by the makers of these movies, incidentally).
But when it comes to the music of these movies, their music is nothing to laugh about. Some of the most talented music directors got their breaks in these movies and created awesome music. A few such music directors (Kalyanji Anandji and Laxmikant Pyarelal) managed to graduate to A grade movies after cutting their teeth in these mythological/ historical C grade movies. But many equally talented music directors failed to make the grade, despite creating great music in these C grade movies.
“Faulad” (1963) has music by G S Kohli. Music aficionados know him as the man who created the awesome music of “Shikaari”(1963), which was another C grade movie.
In this blog, I have posted an outstanding ( though obscure) song from his debut movie called “Mr India” (1961) which was Mat poochh meraa hai kaun watan (Mr India)(1961).
Here is a song from “Faulaad” (1963). In this movie, Dara Singh finds two ladies, both called Mumtaz, competing for his affections. In this song, it is Minoo Mumtaz, who is seen singing a seductive song for Dara Singh.
This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is written by Farooque Qaisar. Though I listened to this song for ther first time only yesterday, when Greta gave her farmaish for this song, but this song has already grown up on me. What a gem of a song it is from an obscure movie !

G S`Kohli, Daan Singh, Ganesh, S Mohinder- these are some names that come to mind who deserved many more opportunities than they got.

You are nice Atul 🙂 I am addicted to this song. I love the way Dara looks like he can’t believe his good luck, ha ha! I am v. glad to have the lyrics now.

It’s a lovely horse/tonga type song, although Mumtaz is driving one of those Roman chariot things instead of a tonga 🙂

Unfortunately, there were only four songs on the DVD of this, but I think the VCD has two more (why do they edit films like this??? SO ANNOYING). They are also on youtube, one pictured on Mumtaz and another on Minoo.

Absolutely lovely song.
Have never heard this song before. Never heard of this movie before. Just read the review on Greta’s blog and have come here to listen to this song.
